Who you are
- 12+ years of professional visual design experience
- Strong visual capabilities and a wide range of styles
- Experience with brand and identity work
- Experience with design programs like Figma and Adobe Creative Cloud
- Demonstrate a user-centered approach and have empathy for the end-users

- Adept collaborator working with teams

What the job involves
- As a Staff Visual Product Designer at Crunchyroll, you will provide Crunchyroll with a visual refresh and evolve the Crunchyroll app experience across mobile, web, and TV. This will help enhance our experiences and delight our anime fans
- You will work with a team of designers who collaborate with user researchers, product management, and engineers to evolve experiences through iterative improvements and new features
- You will also define and bring projects from concept to production, ensuring user goals are represented
- You will handle the review process, both within the design department and with partner teams, and provide constructive input to the designs of other designers on your team
- Your designs should show an understanding of the industry, our competitors, and especially empathy for our users
- You will think through problems and use your design expertise to create solutions that provide our users with an outstanding user experience that is elegant, engaging, and functional
- In the role of Staff Visual Product Designer, you will report to the Director, Product Design
- The Product Design department is a distributed team responsible for creating Crunchyroll's video streaming services
- Our work encompasses the new Crunchyroll website, the mobile apps, and the TV experiences
- Our mission is to provide a fabulous and engaging user experience for lovers of anime and manga content everywhere!
- As a partner to business, product, and engineering groups, we collaborate with teams across the company to identify the right problems and ensure that our solutions satisfy the goals of both the business and the end-user

In recent decades, anime - encompassing Japanese, Korean, and Chinese animation 0 has transitioned from a niche interest to a formidable industry, boasting a global market worth approximately $30B. Despite this growth, distribution has historically posed challenges, with series and films often reaching overseas audiences through disparate channels, if at all. Crunchyroll emerged to address this issue by consolidating the largest collection of anime into a single streaming service.
Sony's acquisition of Crunchyroll in 2021 for $1.75B expanded the platform's reach, integrating Sony's extensive animation library into its offerings. this move also positioned Crunchyroll for heightened competition against streaming giant Netflix, known for its substantial investments in anime production and acquisition. Currently, Crunchyroll maintains an unrivaled library of anime content, boasting over 44,000 episodes that have attracted over 0M paying subscribers.
While Crunchyroll initially offered a free, ad-supported tier to its vast community, it appears poised to phase out this option, transitioning to a subscription-based model for all new series. Despite this shift, the platform has implemented a global reduction in fees to stimulate subscription uptake. The success of this strategy remains to be seen, but past experiences with companies like Hulu suggest that it may drive subscription growth and mitigate piracy
