Role
Who you are
- We’re looking for someone who has an existing network in health and wellness, relationship management experience, and is comfortable doing warm and cold outreach in key markets
- The ideal candidate will be an innovative, creative thinker who doesn’t rely on a traditional sales playbook and thinks strategically about opportunities beyond established media outlets or personalities
- Knowledge of trends in the health and wellness category and the ability to identify the most innovative and interesting creators within it is essential
- Candidates should have a deep interest in supporting creators and their right to free expression, come with an existing network to tap, and be eager to make an impact in a fast-paced, startup environment
- Excellent written, verbal, and diplomatic skills, with sharp attention to detail
- A voracious reader and subscriber to Substacks, with a keen sense of the evolving tech and media landscape
- Interest in building the playbook (principles, strategy) and then scaling it (building solutions, processes, and teams)
- Awareness and knowledge of online trends
- Comfort with and a passion for social media, you are curious about what’s going on there, aware of trends, and able to identify interesting new voices
- Experience working with influencers is a plus
- Artist relations and management experience are a plus
- Previous sales experience is a plus, preferably with a focus on high-velocity outbound conversations
- CRM (Sales, Hubspot, etc) experience is a plus
What the job involves
- We’re hiring a Partnerships Associate to focus on growing the Health and Wellness category on Substack
- This role reports to and will work in tandem with the Head of Lifestyle on the Partnerships team
- Work closely with the Head of Lifestyle on lead sourcing and outreach to unlock key creators in the health and wellness category
- Work with creators to develop publication plans and successfully launch them on Substack
- Partner closely with the internal marketing, product, and data teams to deeply understand compelling new markets for Substack to explore and the best strategies to go after them
- Work cross-functionally to help uplevel our lead sourcing and creator outreach strategy across the Partnerships organization
Our take
Substack provides an online platform for journalists and writers to manage subscription-based newsletters. Substack has attracted a range of writers and publishers who wish to connect with their audiences while being removed from social media and other ad-based models.
For an industry that has seen a steady decline in its fortunes since the rise of digital, Substack offers journalism an alternative to the advertising-driven clickbait-focused model that has dominated the last decade. Substack has amassed more than 35 million subscribers.
The subscription newsletter space is a competitive market, but Substack claims to provide greater freedom to writers than its competitors. Writers produce their newsletters on the site for free, charging an optional subscription fee (minimum of $5/month) of which Substack takes 10%. The company continues to seek out ways to diversify its offerings.
