What the job involves
- Reporting to Mary, our co-CEO you’ll line manage 6 engineers (and growing), cultivating a high-performing culture focused on hard work and technical excellence
- Deliver regular, actionable feedback combined with accountability that allows the team to improve and deliver quickly without compromising on quality
- Take ownership of continuously improving and maintaining processes across various areas, such as product support, QA, and handling on-call incidents
- Nurture a culture of accountability and ownership, empowering team members to take initiative and drive results
- Challenge the team to set aggressive but realistic goals that ensure we are moving towards Odin’s objectives and help the teams grow
- Work with Product to drive high-quality product releases that our customers love
- Own the hiring process and help build a high-performing team with complementary skills. You will be key in ensuring that every new hire raises the bar and improves our standards as a business, regardless of their seniority
- Work closely with the founders to align the Engineering team's goals with the company's vision and strategies, ensuring a cohesive and best-practice approach towards achieving our objectives
Our take
Odin is at the apex of two major trends in finance: the democratisation of access to private markets through technology, and the increasingly social feel of finance and investing. The startup began as a social network with an investment layer built on top, though it is now a more focused financial service that simplifies startup investing.
The company's roots in social and community speak to a unique trajectory it is on. After gaining a lot of traction with its syndicate-formation service, the startup has been looking to develop further products that decentralise and simplify capital rails for the innovation ecosystem. It’s likely that the product roadmap will be developed in conjunction with its customer base, many of whom attend Odin’s salons.
Though the company has had to navigate an environment where capital going towards innovative companies is at a fraction of where it once was, it appears to have emerged unscathed, if not stronger. In 2023, it raised £2.4 million in a seed round that included contributions from 220 angels through its own platform. It plans to use these funds to roll out its marketplace for people raising money to find investors, as well as support scale-up plans across Europe and possibly into Asia.
