Who you are
- Prior experience of case management systems e.g. Salesforce, Tableau and related workflows
- Prior experience of data analysis and reporting using large datasets
- Demonstrable experience of using MS Excel to intermediate level
- Keen attention to detail and solid analytical skills, paired with an open, innovative mindset that encourages new ideas and collaborative problem solving
- Ability to build positive relationships with key stakeholders, representing the department with confidence, warmth and credibility
- Highly effective communication skills, using clear, audience-focused reasoning to translate complex issues into concise messages for a wide range of audiences

What the job involves
- We regulate financial services firms in the UK, to keep financial markets fair, thriving and effective. By joining us, you’ll play a key part in protecting consumers, driving economic growth, and shaping the future of UK finance services
- SPC oversees firms and individuals (supervision), creates and reviews the rules by which they operate (policy) and identifies and remedies ineffective competition in markets (competition). Sitting within the Specialist Directorate, the Resolution Strategy, Operations & CASS (ReSOC) department leads the FCA’s efforts to enhance client asset protection thereby boosting consumer protection and market integrity through risk assessment, data analysis and supervision of firms’ compliance with the Client Assets Sourcebook
- Support the CASS Operations, Data and Risk team as a first-line intake point for information and data received by ReSOC (from firms, auditors and internal stakeholders)
- Apply a consistent, risk-based approach to prioritise incoming correspondence and data, identify key themes and potential consumer harm indicators, and escalate appropriately within agreed timescales
- Produce concise analysis and MI for stakeholders to support timely decision-making and effective allocation of work across ReSOC and wider FCA teams, ensuring decisions are well informed and aligned to consumer protection goals
- Develop deep knowledge of the CASS regime, enhancing your grasp of how firms protect client assets across the UK
- Identify recurring issues, bottlenecks and avoidable rework; propose and implement process improvements (e.g., templates, guidance, automation opportunities, standard operating procedures) to improve efficiency and quality

Our take
Developed on the back of the Financial Services Act of 2012, the Financial Conduct Authority is a regulatory body that acts as a regulator for financial firms, ensuring the integrity of the financial markets in the UK. Broadly focused on financial companies that provide consumer services, it’s governed by the Bank of England and therefore acts independently of the government.
The FCA is responsible for regulatory innovations, such as stronger customer authentication requirements, including biometric and code requirements for payments, that have clamped down on fraud and improved security for national consumers. The FCA also introduced the Anti-Money Laundering Supervision in 2017.
The organisation’s independence from government ensures its impartiality as a regulator. In the late 2010s, it set up the cryptoasset registration, a department responsible for ensuring the legality of crypto payments. This has become an important aspect of national counter terrorism measures, and exemplifies the complex and vital work that the organisation carries out.
