A commitment to ocean sustainability
Creativity and storytelling skills to create visually engaging content (images and videos) for multiple platforms: Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, LinkedIn, and X
Excellent graphic design and video editing skills including advanced proficiency in Canva Pro and the Adobe Creative Suite
Experience working with paid, organic and earned social media content alongside a deep understanding of platform-specific content requirements
Knowledge of the evolving social media landscape and best practices including algorithms, content formatting, subtitling, and visual calls to action
Strong interpersonal skills, with ability to get on with colleagues and partners around the world

What the job involves

The MSC is seeking a talented and experienced Social Media Content Producer to create engaging content that resonates with our audiences across various social media channels, amplifying our digital impact and inspiring engagement with our mission to end overfishing and champion the production of sustainable seafood
The post holder will be a champion for the effective, efficient use of social media and will work closely with the Senior Social Media Manager to ideate, coordinate, commission and create impactful, high-performing social media video and image content for use on MSC social media channels as well as with creators, ambassadors and partners
Ideate and execute engaging content for visually captivating and audience-engaging social media content, ensuring it meets quality standards, adheres to brand guidelines and is appropriate for platforms
Create, curate, commission and oversee the production of compelling video, image and text-based content
Manage pre-production and production process of social video and asset gathering shoots
Work with influencers and external partners to expand the MSC’s reach and visibility
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to align social media efforts with broader marketing & communications initiatives
Provide expert guidance to communications colleagues in social media best practice
Stay ahead of social media trends, emerging platforms, and viral content to ensure our content remains fresh, relevant and impactful
Analyse social media performance metrics to inform strategy and provide actionable insights for continuous improvement
Engage with followers by responding to comments and messages, fostering a strong community presence

Our take

The global seafood market faces pressure from overfishing and environmental degradation, ultimately threatening ocean ecosystems and the long-term availability of seafood. On top of this, demand is rising, meaning sustainable fishing practices are becoming crucial.

The Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) addresses these challenges by promoting sustainable fishing through its certification programs. Its blue fish label encourages responsible consumer choices, while also working to update the standards to ensure fisheries meet environmental sustainability criteria.

While its clearly a good initiative, the company has recently faced criticism over labour issues in its certified fisheries. In response, it is improving these processes, increasing transparency, and focusing on both sustainability and workers' rights to strengthen its role in safeguarding the future of seafood.
