- Have 5+ years of experience shipping features and products
- BA/BS degree or equivalent experience
- Have backend development experience with Node.js, Express, and MongoDB
- Possess strong understanding of web development best practices and principles, including responsive design and accessibility standards
- Effectively communicate and collaborate with cross-functional teams
- Are eager to learn and adapt to new technologies and tools
- Love thinking through large technical problems and working through that complexity on a collaborative, distributed team
- Are comfortable building up a mental model of a product and architecture through reading code and debugging existing software
- Can debug production issues across services and multiple levels of the stack
- Take pride in taking ownership and driving projects to business impact
- Have consistently communicated trade-offs throughout a project to meet both technical and business requirements
- Are comfortable working in an agile, safe-to-fail environment

What the job involves
- The Assets team is building a next-generation, AI-native Digital Asset Manager (DAM) as a core component of Webflow’s WXP vision. Today, critical assets (images, video, PDFs) are scattered across tools and teams, making reuse, governance, organization, and performance insights hard
- The Webflow DAM integrates these asset workflows with the overarching WXP platform, enabling customers to manage their content at enterprise scale while keeping creation fast and on-brand
- We’re a zero-to-one team building a startup within a startup. We’re looking for a Senior Engineer who’s excited to solve challenging problems to address emerging customer needs and behaviors
- As a Senior Backend Engineer, Assets you’ll collaborate with designers, PMs, data scientists and engineers to plan and build product capabilities that enable our ambitious visual development goals
- Co-create new and improved functionality across multiple areas of the Webflow technology stack using technologies such as React, Javascript/Typescript, HTML, CSS, Node.js, and MongoDB
- Tackle complex technical challenges on a collaborative and geographically distributed team
- Solve problems in a highly technical platform that empowers hundreds of thousands of people
- Apply web best practices, including performance optimization techniques, accessibility standards and secure data exchange between different domains
- Build, document, and test production code that impacts all Webflow customers
- Participate in all engineering activities including incident response, interviewing, designing and reviewing technical specifications, code review, and releasing new functionality
- Improve our planning, development, and deployment processes to help you and your fellow team members
- In addition to the responsibilities outlined above, at Webflow we will support you in identifying where your interests and development opportunities lie and we'll help you incorporate them into your role
Our take
No-code development systems allow users to create and publish the kind of output that was once only possible with the help of a team of developers. Webflow is one such platform that allows non-developers to create professional websites without knowing any code. It joins others such as Pantheon, Weebly, Squarespace, and Wix in a hotly-contested low-code development market. While competition is high, so too is demand, with low-code platforms accounting for more than 65% of application development activity in 2024.
The popularity of platforms such as Webflow is perhaps not surprising, as low-code development is usually cheaper for companies to implement and reduces time to market. Webflow has been used by over 3.5 million designers and teams to create sites for companies including enterprise brands such as Dell, Rakuten, UpWork, and Petal. It raised a large amount of funding in a Series C round in 2022. This is being used to further develop its platform, with a longer-term goal of pivoting to providing a no-code tool not only for websites, but software development as well.
