Who you are
- You are 5 to 7 years PQE, English or New York qualified, and looking for a role where your work genuinely matters from day one. We are open to London or New York, and will decide based on the strength of the candidate

- Contracts is your thing, not a stepping stone: You are a commercial and vendor contracts lawyer because you want to be. You find genuine satisfaction in moving deals forward, owning the process end to end, and doing it well. This is not a role for someone looking to transition into something else on 9fin's time
- You bring energy: You show up with drive. You don't wait to be pointed at work. You identify what needs doing and you do it. The best version of this role looks like a lawyer who operates with the urgency and ownership of someone building their own business
- High output, high quality: You can carry a significant volume of commercial work without corners being cut. You are organised, accurate, and reliable under time pressure
- You close things: You are not someone who holds deals in limbo. You understand what matters commercially, you take a proportionate view of risk, and you get contracts signed
- Team player with no ego: You work well within a small, senior team. You ask for help when you need it, you share what you know, and you care about the team's output as much as your own
- Proactive communicator: You keep stakeholders informed without being chased. You are clear and direct, whether you are advising a sales rep or briefing a senior executive
- Willing to stretch: Commercial and vendor contracting is the core of this role. The adjacent areas are secondary. But when the business needs you to step in, you step in without complaint
- Solution minded: You come with answers, not just problems. You move fast, you build repeatable solutions, and you don't get stuck in the detail when speed matters

What the job involves
- We are a small, ambitious legal team that moves fast, takes ownership seriously, and genuinely enjoys the work we do together. Everyone on the team has real scope, and we invest in each other
- This role is for a lawyer who loves what they do, and is keen to focus on commercial contracts. You will be the primary legal contact for Sales and RevOps, owning the deal flow that keeps the business moving and building real relationships with the people you support
- Contracting with 9fin’s clients is the core, but negotiating with vendors also sits alongside that as an equally important part of the role. There is room to stretch into adjacent areas when the business needs it, and plenty of opportunity to grow as the team does
- You will report to the VP, General Counsel and work alongside a team that will back you
- Be the primary point of contact for Sales and RevOps on commercial contracting, owning triage and day-to-day deal flow across the business
- Lead on the bulk of sales contract work, working within a collaborative legal team where commercial contracting is your primary focus
- Operate confidently within Ironclad as the primary user of the contracting workflow, working to get the most out of the platform
- Liaise with the Procurement Manager as the primary legal point of contact for vendor agreements, reviewing and negotiating contracts routed through the procurement function, and ensuring the wider legal team is properly engaged on vendor matters that require legal input
- Own the forms, draft and negotiate the full suite of commercial agreements: Order Forms, Terms, NDAs, and other specific addenda
- Handle the volume: renewals, amendments, non-standard terms, and anything else that keeps deals moving at pace
- Pick up adjacent areas as needed, including Company Secretarial, policy work, and corporate support when it arises
Our take
9fin’s initial aim was to solve the problem of extracting data out of financial documents. It quickly turned to AI, where computer vision tools can be deployed to find key financial data point quickly and automatically.
Its AI tools learn to understand the complicated legal clauses in contracts, automating a lot of the manual work that's usually involve in this space. 9fin also has a team of journalists and analysts who product news and analysis that help make sense of complex situations. The result is an integrated platform that debt capital market professionals can use to make quicker and better investment decisions.
9fin is used by leading banks, hedge funds, and asset managers around the world. The company has seen significant investment, the most recent of which will support the scaling of its team and expansion of its product into new asset classes, as well as helping it to grow its presence in the US, Latin America, and Asia Pacific.

- Overcommunicate: Don’t leave people in the dark. It’s better to receive a 10 second note saying “Super busy, but I’ll get to it.” than radio silence
