Role
Who you are
- You are passionate about quality engineering and push us all forward
- You make sure engineering tasks are prioritized as you are part of the prioritization on a group level
- We are looking for an extensive background in experience in designing and building top-class software and APIs in Python combined with experience in JVM languages, preferably Kotlin
- You understand what it takes to build and operate scalable software services in production with 99,95% uptime
- Preferably you would have been in a Lead Engineer / Staff Engineer role previously
- Background as a coding architect is genuinely relevant as well
- In addition, you should have experience in system architecture
- Prior experience in the finance/payments domain will be seen as a great advantage
- Naturally, excellent communications skills and the capability to drive change and get things done are crucial
What the job involves
- In this role, you own the Finance Group’s (Payments) tech domain, facilitate the engineering roadmap for this group, and plan ahead in scaling, performance, and productivity alongside taking part in hands-on coding
- Staff Engineers at Wolt own their ownership area and technological competence with a passion, sharing best practices, ensuring scalable systems, mentoring developers, and facilitating their expertise relentlessly
- They make sure we scale while maintaining engineering quality and produce uncompromising results from the product vision
- Staff engineers work as individual contributors in high criticality projects in their domain and help champion success
- They participate in business-critical projects and ensure the projects in the area are successful and well built to scale
- Staff engineers share the knowledge and influence engineers and teams across the group and beyond
Our take
Wolt is a delivery platform for restaurants and stores. They started with food delivery from restaurants, but have since entered into other areas such as groceries, retail stores and boutiques.
They have expanded to 23 countries (operating in more than 250 cites) including Sweden, Estonia, Germany and Japan. Unlike their competitors Uber Eats and Deliveroo which concentrate on densely populated cities, Wolt are able to also focus on the smaller markets with a relatively lower population density.
Wolt was acquired by DoorDash in November 2021 in an all-stock transaction for €7bn. This follows several other better-capitalised food delivery companies buying or investing in younger businesses in this large and crowded market. Following the acquisition, Wolt's chief executive will run DoorDash International and expand the joint business into new markets.
