Who you are

B.S. in Physics, Engineering, or a related technical field. Advanced degrees are a plus
10+ years of systems engineering, hardware engineering, and/or technical program management experience
Experience delivering deep tech programs or products from inception to delivery
Knowledge of user needs, gathering requirements, and defining scope
Experience operating autonomously across multiple teams, demonstrated critical thinking, and thought leadership
Communication experience and experience working with technical management teams to develop systems, solutions, and products
Organizational, coordination and multi-tasking experience
Excellent analytical and problem-solving experience with large-scale systems
Experience establishing work relationships across multi-disciplinary teams and multiple partners in different time zones

What the job involves

Lead cross-functional teams to translate product requirements into design and engineering plans, manage program execution, resolve technical tradeoffs and dependencies as they arise, and ultimately ensure the product satisfies customer needs with a great user experience
You will interact with key business and technical stakeholders to drive programs to meet objectives on schedule and within budget
Organize strong and aligned program teams to efficiently deliver on shared goals
Collaborate with engineering and business owners to define program requirements, set priorities, and establish engineering execution plans to meet the requirements
Manage cross functional dependencies, risks, and changes effectively by optimizing scope, schedule, and resources accordingly
Partner with cross functional teams to drive technical analysis, design, development, testing, implementation, and post implementation phases
Define and track key metrics and key quality and performance indicators and drive cross functional execution of program deliverables
Develop and own communication plans to effectively and proactively communicate program status, issues, and risks to stakeholders
Proactively identify and analyze complex technical problems with engineering leaders and stakeholders to find solutions
Influence product roadmap decisions to align with the company's business objectives
Drive internal and external process improvements across multiple teams and functions

Our take

Quantum computers are largely defined by their qubit type and coherence times. Atom Computing creates spin qubits by using the neutral atom Strontium-87, which, in one of its nuclear spin states, can coherently remain in that state for a very long time, allowing computers to run deeper quantum circuits.

Qubits are fragile and susceptible to errors, but the company’s unique system yields a record-setting coherence time of 40 seconds which is monumentally faster than other systems, allowing more time for quantum error correction research to detect and correct errors without completely degrading purposeful computation.

The company raised $60 million of capital in its 2022 Series B round and a further $10 million extension in 2024. That same year, Atom Computing announced a partnership with Microsoft, which will see the two companies collaborate on a range of commercially viable quantum computers, containing 1000 qubits each. It appears, then, that Atom Computing is well positioned to provide the leading quantum computing power behind life-changing breakthroughs.
