Role

Who you are

  • We are looking for a Senior Product Manager to lead the next stage in the evolution of some of our products (Proton Mail, Calendar, Bridge)
  • 6-10 years of experience in product management in B2B SaaS, preferably in online privacy and/or productivity contexts
  • Proven track-record in successful product and major feature launches in fast-paced environments
  • Strategic leader with an analytical and data-driven mindset, with a track record for delivering products and features on time and with commercial success
  • Strong empathy for the customer, user-centric mindset, and an unwillingness to lower standards
  • A strong innate sense for good UX, with a love for design
  • Experience building and managing high-performing teams
  • A work ethic of going above and beyond to make things happen. Ability to be hands-on and thrive in a fast-paced environment
  • Able to dig into the technical details with engineers and make the right trade-offs

What the job involves

  • Join the team of 4 Product Managers working on the Mail & Calendar ecosystem alongside 50 Engineers
  • Developing innovative productivity tools that seamlessly integrate with our privacy-centric ecosystem
  • Advancing the frontiers of cryptography to ensure user data remains secure even in the face of emerging technologies such as quantum proof encryption
  • Expanding Proton's reach into the B2B segment, bringing privacy and security to businesses worldwide
  • Pushing the boundaries of innovation with projects like Scribe, the world's first private AI in a consumer product
  • Own a big part of Mail & Calendar product development: Shape the future of products used by millions of people around the world
  • Drive strategy: Independently influence the direction of Proton's flagship products and help us realize our vision of a private internet
  • Be at the forefront of innovation: Work on groundbreaking projects that set new standards for privacy and security in the digital world
  • Product at Proton sits at the intersection of Engineering, Growth, Data and Design
  • Your responsibility will be to grow user engagement and retention by creating remarkable user experiences for our community. You are versatile in product-led growth, at the heart of our freemium model
  • Work with the senior leadership team to define a strategic vision and roadmap
  • Drive product innovation, develop novel, game-changing product features that expand our value proposition to new user segments and increase our defensibility
  • Define and own what success looks like in terms of metrics such as active usage, user engagement, retention, and revenue
  • Facilitate hand-in-hand collaboration between product, engineering, growth and marketing to align on the vision and the execution
  • Lead the teams through execution from conception to delivery. Troubleshoot and solve problems involving multiple teams inside and outside of product and maintain high development velocity
  • Conduct market research, competitive analysis, and gather customer feedback to inform product decisions
  • Anticipate growth ceilings and define scaling strategies to prevent them, that include managing projects beyond pure-product work, and include foundational technology, tools, and processes, such as a customer engagement platform

Our take

Proton is a Geneva-based startup founded by former CERN worker and internet privacy advocate Andy Yen. It provides internet users with encrypted webmail, calendar, drive, and VPN services.

Proton maintains its pro-privacy ethos using a Swiss VPN, protected by strict Swiss privacy laws. In essence, it has established a connection between the personal and the political, smartly utilising the country’s national laws to benefit people and organisations globally. Proton also funds charities and movements such as the World Wide Web Foundation and Netblocks, further cementing it as an influential NGO.

Perhaps Proton’s most important quality is its determination to maintain independence from advertisers and companies. Originally founded on donations, Proton has funded itself via grants rather than venture capital so that all of its customer's data is never at risk of being mined. One effect of this is that to keep up with the increasing competition in the data privacy sector, Proton has expanded its services to allow more cross-selling and simultaneously has more products to offer, such as drive and calendar privacy.
