Who you are
- 6+ years of business development, partnerships, or commercial experience, ideally within the fintech, payments, banking, or financial infrastructure sectors
- Proven track record of securing and scaling high-value commercial partnerships
- Strong understanding of financial technology products and market dynamics
- Excellent negotiation and relationship-building skills at C-level and across cross-functional teams
- Ability to work autonomously in a fast-paced, high-growth environment
- Exceptional communication, presentation, and strategic thinking abilities
- Experience working with legal and compliance teams on regulated product offerings is a strong plus
Desirable
- Experience in B2B fintech (e.g., APIs, embedded finance, digital banking, lending platforms)
- Global market exposure or experience working in multiple regions (e.g., North America, EMEA, APAC)
- Strong network within the fintech and financial services ecosystem
What the job involves
- We are seeking an experienced and results-driven Senior Business Development Manager to lead strategic growth initiatives, identify high-impact partnership opportunities, and drive revenue expansion across new and existing markets
- This is a critical role that combines strategic thinking, commercial acumen, and deep fintech knowledge to fuel our next phase of growth
- Own the end-to-end business development process from lead generation through to deal closure and onboarding
- Identify and evaluate new market opportunities, strategic partners, and product distribution channels
- Build and maintain strong, long-term relationships with key stakeholders at banks, fintechs, PSPs, and enterprise clients
- Collaborate with product, marketing, legal, and compliance teams to structure and negotiate complex commercial agreements
- Develop go-to-market strategies for new products or regions and contribute to pricing, positioning, and partner enablement plans
- Stay informed of fintech trends, competitive landscape, and regulatory developments to proactively shape our commercial strategy
- Represent humm at industry events, conferences, and panels

Our take
In 2020 Humm, previously FlexiGroup, went all in on the emerging consumer trend towards buy-now-pay-later (BNPL) financing. The sector has seen a boom recently thanks to cash-strapped post-covid consumers looking, in particular, to help finance a growing number of ecommerce purchases. Humm has applied this principle to an extensive ecosystem of financial products, including leasing and credit cards, and extending their services also to retailers and SMEs.
It’s helped Humm become a leading BNPL player across Australasia, Canada, Ireland, and the UK - and this global reach may prove critical going forwards. The BNPL bubble on Humm’s Australian home turf is beginning to burst, with an increasingly reluctant consumer market, regulatory crackdowns on the way, the combined market capitalisation of BNPL companies tumbling, and many competitors merging in order to shoulder business costs.
Analysts predict that only a few of the dozen Australian competitors will weather the storm. This could be good news for Humm, although they will still face close competition from rivals Zip and Sezzle. If Humm can shore up its international presence in more stable BNPL territories, it could stand to win a larger market share as smaller competitors fold.
