Role
Who you are
- Experience as a Frontend Engineer, with a focus on building React applications; either working within an existing codebase or building from the ground up
- Proficiency in ReactJS, TypeScript, JavaScript, or similar technologies
- Comfortable bringing design mockups (e.g. from Figma) to usable web pages that work well across devices
- Understanding of RESTful APIs and web service architecture
- Familiarity with modern frontend tools, libraries, and workflows
- Open-minded personality, comfortable working both in a Lean and Agile environment and making decisions in a collaborative way with the team
- Willingness to learn, grow, and support others in a collaborative environment
- Experience with server-side rendering (e.g., Next.js or Nuxt.js) is a plus
- Experience with modern development practices like GitHub, transpilers, linters, build tools, and CI/CD pipelines is a plus
- A focus on code quality, with knowledge of unit, integration, and end-to-end (E2E) testing considered a plus
What the job involves
- In your role as a Software Engineer - Web (m/f/d), you’ll help build fast, intuitive web experiences as part of our Discovery team; the group responsible for shaping a customer’s first impression of Flink and making it easy to find and add the right products to their cart. This includes key areas like the homepage, deals tab, search, and product detail pages
- Collaborate with the team to create an amazing customer experience across our website, including key areas like the homepage (the first screen when opening Flink), the deals section, search, categories, and product detail pages
- Take part in discussions and planning around platform development and website architecture
- Get an opportunity to work across teams to create real value for our customers
- Collaborate within the frontend team to develop our webshop and various landing pages that drive business impact
- Explore and experiment with new technologies and frameworks
- Collaborate with designers to implement clean and user-friendly interfaces
- You’ll work in a cross-functional team using technologies like React, Node.js, TypeScript, Next.js, Vue, Nuxt, and Tailwind CSS, with opportunities to contribute to our Backend for Frontend (BFF) services
- Contribute to documentation and share knowledge across the team
Our take
Online grocery delivery services in Europe range from early supermarket-specific services to the more recent success of mobile food-ordering applications. However despite thier proliferation grocery delivery services still face long waiting lists and logistic bottlenecks, with faster solutions coming with a compromise on the range and quality of products.
Flink provides an online website and mobile application for the delivery of fresh fruit, vegetables, and other organic-quality groceries to European homes. The company provides its services to 100 different European cities across Germany, the Netherlands and France, and claims that its grocery deliveries are provided at supermarket prices within 10 minutes of ordering.
Flink is one of the few remaining independent grocery delivery startups in Europe, with most of the others either having been acquired or shut down. German rival Gorillas for instance ate through its initial investments and was taken over in 2022. Flink has been playing a more conservative strategy, aiming for more steady growth, but had to receive a fresh investment round of 100 million euros in 2024 to help it outlast competitors. Rumors of a potential merger with competitor companies indicate the lengths that Flink is going to maintain its dominance in a market that, at present, is suffering from lower demand and higher costs.
