What the job involves
- We’re looking for seasoned and skilled technical leaders to help architect the future of robotics through best in class, modern software engineering practices. We're looking for seasoned and skilled technical leaders to help architect robust backend systems that power our robotics platform
- As an Embedded Software Engineer, you will work on critical infrastructure that enables safe and reliable robot operations, from hardware integrations to state management and control systems. You’ll work on new R&D hardware as well as our production robot hardware
- Design and implement robust backend architectures for robot control and state management
- Build and maintain test infrastructure to ensure system safety and reliability
- Develop the firmware for hardware integration of various robotics peripherals (cameras, grippers, sensors)
- Drive technical decisions around system architecture and engineering best practices
- Create reliable APIs and services that enable seamless robot operations
- Implement monitoring, logging, and debugging systems for robot operations
- Mentor other engineers on backend architecture and system design principles
- The Systems Group focuses on foundational technologies including motor control, Linux host OS configuration, system health monitoring/logging, and robotic control systems

Our take
In recent years, the field of robotics has brought to life ideas that once belonged to the world of sci-fi. But, robots are still extremely complex to program, making the automations they facilitate out of reach for many businesses.
Standard Bots is setting out to change this, with AI-powered robots and a complementary robotics platform that means they can be programmed through simple demonstrations. This approach should broaden the accessibility of robots to businesses of all sizes, enabling them to employ automations that can give them a competitive edge.
It's an intriguing proposition, and investors agree, with the company raising substantial funding to support its mission. Standard Bots plans to use these funds to expand its engineering team and speed up the development of its robots. The company will, however, likely need to contend with competition from inexpensive robots from China as it develops into the future.
