Role
Who you are
- The role requires applicants who can bring a wealth of knowledge and hands-on experience in technical SEO
- We are looking for someone that has a passion for Organic Search, AI, digital marketing and creative thinking who can generate and execute ideas for increasing the web presence of the world’s leading independent rail and coach travel platform
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- A minimum of 3-4 years SEO experience working with enterprise size websites
- Worked with developer, SEO and non-technical teams to deliver results
- Strong knowledge of SQL
- Very skilled Microsoft Office user, especially Excel
- Knowledge or experience of working with a CMS such as Wordpress, Joomla, Drupal or Umbraco etc
- Extensive experience with essential SEO tools such as Google Search Console, Google Analytics, Screaming Frog, Botify, SEMRush, STAT, Ahrefs etc. Experience using GEO tools, such as Profound, a bonus
- Positive attitude and can work collaboratively
- A hands-on operator who will get into the detail and deliver the strategy and work required to succeed
- Enjoys and is comfortable working in a fast-paced environment
- Enthusiastic, energetic and creative, likes to bring ideas to the table
- High attention to detail
- Confident communicator who can work with different stakeholder levels
- Results-oriented and strong sense of ownership of projects
What the job involves
- This is a 12 month Fixed Term Contract with an ideal start date of December 2025
- At Trainline, Organic Search plays a vital role within the Commercial team and there is significant opportunity for growth
- We’re looking for a Technical Organic Search Manager that has a growth mindset and can think commercially, who will own technical SEO/GEO globally
- Being highly visible in search and generative engines is critical to the success of Trainline
- As such, you will join the Organic Search team and work alongside colleagues in Growth, Tech and Product to implement scaled solutions that drive the performance and growth of Trainline across the UK and international markets
- Show a deep understanding of how search engines and web crawlers work. An ability to translate this into actionable SEO recommendations that are measurable and add value to business performance
- Foundational understanding of how LLMs work, growing understanding of Agentic AI, and an evolving point of view on how this will impact the web of the future
- Utilising AI to enhance processes and identify optimisation opportunities
- Able to demonstrate an understanding of how SEO and GEO can impact business performance, determine the why and problem solve to inform the team roadmap
- Thorough understanding across a range of industry tools, analytics platforms, and SEO and GEO techniques to ensure your strategy is well considered and you can support others
- Shaping, executing and owning our global technical strategy to solve complex SEO and GEO problems (using large scale data analysis) that can have a material difference to our commercial performance
- Stay abreast of industry changes and updates – and more importantly, provide an expert view on these updates to share knowledge and keep key stakeholders informed
- Implement complex indexation and crawlability solutions to improve Organic Search performance at a global level
- Technical understanding of website coding languages including HTML, CSS, JavaScript and Python with the ability to troubleshoot and identify errors that can affect performance
- Strong understanding of JavaScript / Rendering SEO, and its impact on visibility in major search and generative engines
- Proactively monitor website bugs and identify fixes
