Area 1 Security's mission is to make INBOX.CLEAN™ a reality: stop phishing attacks — the root cause of upwards of 90% of breaches — before they reach users.
Desirable
FBI data states that email phishing attacks have cost businesses over $26 billion in losses to date. These cyberthreats are difficult to manage due to the enormous volume of them, and their migration to cloud email means that security processes must be reevaluated.
Area 1 provides cloud-based phishing prevention software focused across email, social, web and network vectors. The service charges per successful phishing intervention, a process that succeeds through machine learning models, declarative rules and lexical pattern assessments. Every successfully caught phishing attack is added to over 100 self-improving cloud models, claiming to analyze over 6 billion pages every week in an attempt to find patterns.
In 2022, Cloudflare acquired Area 1 Security for $162 million to add a mature email security product to its zero-trust offering. Area 1 Security fills an important gap in Cloudflare’s email offering as it discovers and identifies new phishing attacks, and gets rid of them completely rather than putting them into the junk folder. Cloudflare plans to become the leader in Zero Trust and believes that the acquisition of Area 1 will make that happen.
