Who you are

7+ years of professional software engineering experience, including 2+ years in a leadership role
Strong backend experience in Java (Spring Boot) and/or GoLang
Proficiency in modern frontend frameworks like React or Flutter
Experience building distributed systems and APIs in a cloud-native environment (AWS preferred)
Bonus: Experience in robotics, IoT, food-tech, or operational tooling
Collaborative, product-minded, and comfortable in fast-paced environments
Fluent in English; German is a plus

What the job involves

As Team Lead Software Engineering, you’ll take responsibility for one of our cross-functional product engineering teams. The squad develops core user-facing and operational components of the Circus ecosystem—software that connects real-time customer experiences with complex backend orchestration and robotics
In this role, you’ll combine hands-on technical leadership with team development, system architecture, and cross-functional collaboration
Lead and grow a multidisciplinary software engineering team
Guide system design and architecture across backend (Java/GoLang) and frontend (React/Flutter) stacks
Build intuitive tools and APIs that power real-world automation and user interaction
Collaborate with Product, Robotics, and Culinary teams to translate workflows into robust software
Ensure code quality, maintainability, and scalable deployment pipelines
Foster a high-trust, learning-focused, and outcome-driven team culture

Our take

Initially supplying a delivery app for micro kitchens, Circus Group now develops AI-powered autonomous robots for kitchens. The idea is to support the cooking of low-cost, high-quality cuisine while reducing food waste, overhead costs and cooking times.

Founded in Munich, the company has invested in expansion to other German cities - and also into Beijing where it installed over 5000 autonomous kitchen robots in educational institutions.

It continues to secure lucrative partnerships such as with Mercedes-Benz Gastronomie, as well as acquiring the global patent portfolio of a US-based AI robotics company. This sets the company up well to become a real disruptor in the space, and to build on its successes so far.
