Who you are
- Proficient with c# and Xamarin Forms
- Able to write clean, unit-tested code and improve existing code
- Commercially minded and care about the impact of your work on users, commercial outcomes, and the wider team over the number of features shipped or amount of code changed
- Are experimental—predict the impact of your changes, observe the results, and adapt
- Are curious—learning from feedback from colleagues, customers, tests, and production. You seek to understand in-depth, not just superficially
What the job involves
- As a Software Engineer at Pockit you will help make a difference, solving problems for our customers using the latest .net technologies
- You will further our mission of financial inclusion and making banking available to everyone who needs it across the UK. As a growing company you will also have autonomy and the opportunity to learn fast
- Work with other engineers, designers, and product managers to identify ideas that might add value and product experiments to run
- Write code to implement experiments, features, and other enhancements to our c# xamarin-forms app
- Iteratively improve the customer experience, including both design and performance
- Continuous code refactoring and clean up
- Test and regularly release your changes
- Learn by observing the impact of the team’s changes on customer experience and business KPIs
- Participate in an on-call rota to keep the systems you build running (it’s rare to see issues but they occur occasionally)
Our take
Banks haven't innovated their consumer offering for decades. The tide is now turning, with fast moving disrupters building consumer-first businesses and products with many more useful features.
Pockit's differentiator is that it targets customers with a ‘thin’ credit file or who are newly arrived in a country, and the account can be opened in just 2 minutes with minimal documentation. This makes it attractive to recent migrants or other customers that don’t have a full financial history and therefore may find it more cumbersome to apply for an account with a high street bank.
With good funding at its back, the company has been steadily increasing operations in the last few years. Most recently, Pockit has partnered with Prizeout (an online marketplace where brands bid for business by offering gift cards), to further uplift the purchasing power of its users that can now make use of the savings offered by these gift cards directly from their Pockit account.
