Doctolib's mission is to transform the world of healthcare.
Desirable
Doctolib is a leading medical practice management platform and appointment booking service that’s become something of a titan in the French tech scene. The company is a Unicorn with over 60 million users and has netted a near monopoly in the French online medical appointments subsector. This is in part thanks to the French government’s failure to invest in digitising the healthcare sector, which left a remarkable and substantial gap in the market.
Some have raised concerns in court over copious amounts of French healthcare data being held by a private company - and indeed, Doctolib has run into problems with selling data in recent years. So far, the French Council of State has been ruling in Doctolib’s favour, but staying in line with increasingly tight data privacy laws is something Doctolib will need to be stringent about in the future.
Doctolib is performing well in Germany, too, and acquired Dutch collaborative messaging start-up Siilo in 2023 in a bid to improve its communication capabilities. However, it's unlikely to see comparable success in countries where efforts have been made to digitise the healthcare sector. This closes off some key European markets, like Spain and the UK, so Doctolib would do well to double down on expanding its product offerings in the markets they currently dominate.
