Who you are
- At least 3 year of experience as a Backends Engineer
- Proactive team player that is ready to work with diverse roles and people
- Background in programming languages like PHP and Golang

What the job involves
- We're looking for software engineers that will work on services for games that are played & loved by several million users every day, all over the world
- Those services must scale-out to serve high users traffic every day and must be developed with the highest quality this competitive industry requires
- We expect from our developers to keep our tech state-of-the-art and, at the same time, come up with great new ideas
- Our backend applications are developed using several programming languages & technologies (Golang, PHP, AWS EC2, Kubernetes, etc…), so you should be eager to work with our legacy code, extend, maintain & continuously refactor the backend of our games
- Your job is not only about writing code. You will also have to work with other roles like mobile developers, data analysts and systems engineers to integrate your components, as well as write technical designs, documentation, knowledge share and train other team members
- As a backend engineer, you will also be part of our games team and work closely with game design, player experience, mobile, and other departments. You will be integrated with business decisions as part of our technology strategy
Our take
Zynga is a games developer that rode Facebook's platform to success back in the late noughties and early 2010's. It is now one of the biggest casual game producers globally, with a presence across over 170 countries and regions and millions of monthly active users.
Though the company hit a number of roadblocks after its initial success - such as falling stock prices, and numerous calls it was copying other games - its subsequent resurgence is proof of its staying power. It continues to use social media as a distribution channel, and boasts titles such as FarmVille, Merge Dragons! and Words With Friends.
Future success will lie in the company's continued investment in building viral games that people love. It will also need to attune to the social media waves and keep track of where users can be found, as the landscape has become more mobile. In 2024 the company announced it was developing push notifications that enable gameplay without entering the application, which will be an interesting addition to its outputs.
