Role
Who you are
- 4+ years experience in software development with successful projects using TypeScript and Node.js
- 2+ years experience writing scalable, testable, performant server-side code
- 2+ years experience creating documentation that details how to break down projects and technical details for team members of varying expertise
- Willingness to mentor/train/work with other teams through documentation and live sessions on the best way to accomplish building features using the system we build/own
- Experience with version control and CI/CD systems such as Github, Bitbucket, and GitLab
What the job involves
- As a Senior Backend Platform Software Engineer, you'll maintain the health of our API server codebase (including the developer experience of working on it) and proactively find ways to improve it
- You'll collaborate on and support the frameworks and SDK that underpin GameChanger's development. Our backend APIs are built with TypeScript, Node.js, Redis, and PostgreSQL and run in AWS
- You will take an active part in the changes to our server-side codebase to make it more performant, productive, and scalable. You will report to the Senior Engineering Manager of Core Services
- Implement changes to our API and SDK to facilitate server/client communication
- Introduce code patterns and tools to improve developer ergonomics
- Identify and improve inefficiencies within our backend codebase
- Participate in designing/redesigning critical parts of our system as our systems continue to scale and become more complex
- Learn best practices and share those with other engineers across the company
- Collaborate with peers within and outside of our team on critical decisions about how our applications are architected and built
- Investigate interesting challenges in scaling, security and architectural designs
- Participate in an occasional on-call rotation with the team
Our take
The competitive nature of sports has always been driven by scorekeeping, and nowadays results are often consumed online. However, for smaller teams it can be difficult to provide this information digitally, as they do not have dedicated web development staff.
GameChanger provides a scorekeeping and statistics platform for sports teams to engage with their fans, that allows viewers to track the progress of a game in real-time similar to with professional sports. The company also embeds a live-streaming service into the platform to facilitate remote viewing, helping to increase audience engagement.
Whilst some sports teams already stream events on platforms such as Twitch and YouTube, most do not have the technical resources to achieve this. GameChanger has recognised this gap in the market, providing a simple yet unified platform for sports scoreboards and streaming, providing a fair opportunity for any team to maximise their community engagement.
