Company mission
Building the operating system for the future of homeownership.
Role
Who you are
- Technical Foundation - Full-stack experience: You've shipped complete features across frontend, backend, and database in production
- TypeScript & modern JavaScript: Comfortable with advanced patterns, write maintainable type-safe code
- Cloud-native development: Deployed to production using AWS/GCP/Azure, comfortable with serverless and managed services
- Modern frontend frameworks: Deep experience with React, understand rendering strategies and state management
- Database & API design: SQL schema design, query optimization, REST/GraphQL API experience
Desirable
- Ownership: Take responsibility for outcomes, follow through on commitments, proactively solve problems
- Product thinking: Ask "why are we building this?". Balance business needs, UX, and technical quality
- Autonomous collaboration: Work independently, but seek input on big decisions and help blocked teammates
- Continuous improvement: Open to improving our stack and processes, embrace AI-assisted development
- Client-facing: Explain technical concepts to non-technical audiences, comfortable in customer calls
What the job involves
- Own features end-to-end: Concept → design → implementation → deployment → iteration. Make architectural decisions autonomously. Ship regularly and confidently
- Work directly with clients: Join calls with housing associations to understand their workflows. Validate solutions with real users. Demo features and iterate based on feedback
- Shape the product: Bring ideas. Push back on requirements when there's a better way. Think in terms of outcomes ("what problem?") not outputs ("what tech?")
- Build with quality: Write clean, maintainable, well-tested code. Design systems that scale and stay reliable. Care about performance, security, and UX
- Build the culture: We're moving from low-trust to high-trust. Engineers own decisions, ship autonomously, and feel empowered. Help us get there

Salary benchmarks
Our take
In England, you can borrow 4.5x your salary to buy your first home, but the average home costs around 11x the average salary. Shared ownership and other gradual ownership schemes are here to bridge that gap.
These schemes are currently mostly operated by House Associations, but there is a huge rise in demand from institutional investors to come in and grow the market to meet the demand for First Time Buyers.
The only problem is, they have very little data on how the schemes currently work and very little support from existing technology to manage huge portfolios or renters at scale.
Stairpay is building the first operating system for institutional landlords, connecting both aspiring homeowners and those who offer gradual ownerships schemes.
By housing both sides of the market, Stairpay is capturing all the data necessary to attract more capital into the market as well as giving new entrants an off the shelf scalable operating system.
