Role
Who you are
- Education: BS, MS, or PhD in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science, Robotics, or a related field, or be self-taught with years of hands-on experience
- Strong experience in designing, implementing, and optimizing control systems for robotic applications
- Working knowledge of C++, ROS, real-time operating systems (RTOS), and principles of real-time computing for deterministic control
- Capability to troubleshoot and resolve complex issues in automation systems, ensuring reliability and performance
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills for achieving project goals across teams and disciplines
- Willingness to learn new skills and applications
Desirable
- Familiarity with protocols such as EtherCAT, CANbus, Ethernet/IP, PROFINET, and safety protocols (FSoE, profiSAFE) used in industrial automation
- Experience with programming and integrating industrial robots used for material handling and logistics
- Experience with programming and configuring Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs) for industrial automation
- Experience with advanced motion control techniques, such as trajectory planning, servo control, and kinematics
- Knowledge of computer vision techniques for enhancing automation capabilities, including object detection and tracking
- Passion for staying updated with the latest advancements in automation and robotics technologies. Willingness to explore and experiment with new tools and methodologies to enhance system capabilities
What the job involves
- The additive technology team leads research and development of Relativity’s Stargate 3D-printing platform and factory operating system to produce large-scale metal structures for the industrial base.
- The team works with robotics engineers, data scientists, systems engineers, and welders to advance Relativity’s innovative tech stack, which leverages autonomy, advanced simulation, and robotics. The Robotics Software Engineering Team is building out a novel type of cooperative robotic platform that utilizes our large-scale additive manufacturing systems.
- This platform will pave the way for the continuous invention of new capabilities. We prioritize performance, simplicity, simulation/testing, and reusability, building cohesive interfaces with every piece of equipment we use. Our team provides a system with which custom robots and additive systems can be built and integrated seamlessly
- As a Robotics Engineer II, you will contribute to the development, integration, and optimization of automation systems for our cooperative robotics platform. You will focus on designing and implementing robotic control software, programming PLCs, and developing real-time systems to enhance operational efficiency and precision.

Relativity Space has set out to build humanity’s multiplanetary future with its innovative 3D printed rockets. The company is at the forefront of software-defined manufacturing, combining 3D printing, AI, and autonomous robotics to create the “factory of the future.” By utilizing 3D printing, Relativity has simplified its supply chain, building rockets in less than 60 days that require 100x fewer parts.
The company has completed its flagship Terran 1 rocket and has begun its initial round of test flights. While the first launches technically failed, as the rocket failed to reach orbit, the attempt is still classified as a resounding success as the rocket managed the highest stress state inflicted on the rocket, Max-Q. The company is set to test the Terran 1 rocket again, before moving on to its Terran R rocket. While the company faces competition against SpaceX, Relativity Space’s cheaper and accelerated building process is well set to be a fierce competitor.
