Role
Who you are
- 5+ years of product management experience, with a strong technical foundation
- Hands-on fluency with modern AI development tools and a habit of building with them
- A working understanding of how modern AI tools work and fit together (agents, MCPs, context, and tooling) and why they matter for developer products
- A track record building developer-facing or platform products where earning and keeping developer trust was the difference between adoption and failure
- Strong analytical skills and strong written and verbal communication, with precise articulation of technical customer problems and tradeoffs
- Demonstrated ability to operate independently and navigate ambiguity
Desirable
- Experience building or supporting AI Developer Infrastructure, ML infrastructure, MLOps, or data and analytics tooling
- Background in software engineering or a related technical field (you have written and shipped code)
- Familiarity with AWS and other builder frameworks, shared services, APIs, and platforms
- Familiarity with streaming and Twitch's ecosystem
- Proficiency with data-driven decision making and defining platform adoption metrics
What the job involves
- Platform Core Engineering (PCE) builds the foundational systems, frameworks, and tooling that Twitch's engineers build on every day. As a Senior Product Manager on PCE, your customers are developers, and your success depends on earning their trust. You will own a platform product area and be measured on whether developers actually adopt, rely on, and advocate for what you ship
- This is a deeply technical, senior individual-contributor role. You are expected to be hands-on with modern AI development tools, to understand the technology you are shaping at a real level (not just at the surface), and to hold credibility in a room full of engineers
- Own the strategy and roadmap for a PCE platform area, balancing near-term developer needs with a 1 to 2 year technical vision
- Treat developers as your customers: understand their workflows, earn their trust, and prioritize the capabilities that make them faster and more effective
- Work directly with Senior Engineering Managers and Principal Engineers to define technical and organizational needs and build a cohesive platform ecosystem
- Define and drive the platform metrics that matter
- Drive alignment across dependent teams, resolve competing priorities, and communicate technical tradeoffs
- Own launches end-to-end, including migration paths, documentation, and adoption, so capabilities land and stick
- Partner with tooling customers across engineering, ML infrastructure, MLOps, and data science to ensure the platform serves every developer persona
- Champion hands-on use of modern AI development tools, setting the bar for how the org builds with agents, MCPs, and context tooling
Our take
Twitch is the world's leading video platform for gamers, allowing users to livestream gaming sessions and curate a dedicated community for their content. By dedicating the platform to gaming alone, it has amassed a loyal following of fans, and been able to launch its Partner Program where streamers can monetize their livestreams, incorporate corporate partnerships, and even attend TwitchCon, a convention where dedicated gamers can socialize.
Twitch's acquisition by Amazon in 2014 saw its viewers double in a year, bringing the platform to a wider audience. However, with YouTube streaming popularity on the rise, it has big competition to contend with, as some popular streamers prefer going live on the video giant. Interestingly, a recent move by the platform was to enable its partner streamers to make live content on other platforms - previously inhibited by its exclusivity clause - which may combat the possibility of losing streamers permanently to YouTube.
In 2022, Twitch had to contend with backlash for its proposal to cut creator income by reducing their cut of subscription earnings. However, with the plan only affecting a minute number of creators, the controversy appears to have died down. Needless to say, Twitch is for now entirely comfortable in the market - with possible plans to extend past gaming bringing the chance to generate more popularity yet.
