Who you are
- 5+ years of software development experience
- 5+ years of engineering management experience
- Experience building strong technical teams that balance operational excellence, collaboration and user needs
- Experience working in highly cross-functional organizations
- Proven track record of building large scale, complex distributed systems with open source tools; identifying shortcomings and optimization opportunities; and making data driven cost performance tradeoffs to influence design decisions

- Experience in managing development team in AWS/Azure/OCI/GCP

What the job involves
- You will support a team of engineers focused on building the tooling and observability for all of Stripe engineering to effectively and efficiency leverage our cloud resources
- In addition to helping define the roadmap for the next 3-5 years, you will be interacting with many other managers and their teams at Stripe, who rely on the Efficiency team to deliver efficient and scalable services to our customers
- You will work with both the finance and engineering organization (infrastructure & product) to define, measure and monitor the cost efficiency of all Stripe services in support of our business
- You will also serve as the technical liaison with our cloud provider for all aspects regarding cloud efficiency
- Drive the roadmap and priorities for the team, and work with other engineering teams across the company
- Support the team in achieving a high level of technical excellence and stability
- Be opinionated in building the team's technical vision and play a primary role in technical decision making
- Hire and develop talent on the team
Our take
Stripe, nowadays a FinTech giant, spent the first few years since its founding building up its payments business, which primarily consisted of providing an API to eCommerce businesses so that they could easily integrate a payment option in their apps or websites, where before there was none.
More recently, Stripe has started to accelerate its growth with a significantly larger range of financial services including cash advances and credit cards. They also plan to build incorporation services, fraud protection, and more, diversifying its revenue away from payments and differentiating itself from its competitors.
To further expand its position, the company is extending its services to countries with vast customer potential, including Brazil, Japan and India. It is also partnering with OpenAI, the company behind ChatGPT - a win-win collaboration that is monetising OpenAI’s flagship products and at the same time enhancing Stripe with GPT-4, as it moves forward with intentions to "build the payments foundation for tomorrow's AI economy."
