- Experience with Avalara tax determination software; Oracle ERP experience is a plus
- Advanced Excel and data analysis skills; familiarity with SQL and Tableau is a plus
- Ability to independently research multijurisdictional tax issues and recommend scalable process and technology solutions
What the job involves
- We’re hiring a Sales Tax Analyst to join the HelloFresh U.S. Finance team. Reporting to the Sales Tax Manager, this role will support key aspects of the U.S. tax function, with a primary focus on sales tax maintenance, tax technology, and property tax management
- The Sales Tax Analyst will support multiple U.S. legal entities in maintaining sales tax compliance across the U.S. This includes managing recurring state and local tax filings, supporting audits, driving process improvements, and contributing to special projects across the tax function
- Review U.S. sales and use tax returns prepared by Avalara
- Maintain tax calendars and filing deadlines to ensure timely and accurate filings and payments
- Prepare and reconcile sales and indirect tax accruals; prepare journal entries accordingly
- Compile and maintain tax workpapers and supporting documentation to ensure accuracy, completeness, and audit readiness
- Assist with tax notices and audits, including data collection, analysis, and correspondence with taxing authorities
- Support tax technology maintenance and automation initiatives involving Avalara and Oracle ERP
- Aggregate and prepare data to support property tax compliance across all U.S. locations
- Maintain records of real and personal property tax accounts and related filings
- Respond to cross-functional tax inquiries and support ad hoc tax planning and research projects
- Explore and leverage AI tax solutions
Our take
The food space has seen significant disruption in the last few years, whether it's the rapid expansion of takeaway delivery, online groceries or meal boxes. Consumer tastes are changing and there has been lots of innovation to try and get quality food in front of people more easily. HelloFresh is one of the drivers of that trend.
On the back of a boom in subscriptions during the pandemic, HelloFresh secured its place in the new food market. However, the cost-of-living crisis has meant that the company and its peers have faced dwindling subscriptions, resulting in layoffs and a need to refocus towards a more sustainable future for the business.
That said, HelloFresh still benefits from being a leader in the sector and from its B Corporation status - properties that mean it remains a top option for consumers who want to try meal kits. Only time will tell if the company can sustain its success moving forwards, at a time when its product, however enticing, is becoming less affordable for the general public.
