  • A natural-born communicator

  • 2+ years of communications experience in-house or at an agency working with D2C tech or B2B clients, preferably within a regulated industry

What the job involves

  • Reporting to: Director, Corporate Communications
  • Hippo is looking for a Communications Specialist to help d that align with Hippo’s brand and business goals
  • This role offers a unique opportunity to participate in external and internal storytelling, giving you broad visibility into an evolving industry and the chance to make a significant impact
  • You’ll drive PR initiatives and storytelling that resonate with business, consumer, employee, and industry audiences
  • You’ll help craft pitches and thought leadership content and generate media interviews and speaker opportunities that lead to high impact coverage
  • Additionally, you’ll support internal storytelling and messaging, helping prepare meeting content and resources for employees
  • You’ll also track and report on the effectiveness of Hippo’s broader communication program
  • As a key member of Hippo’s marketing team, you’ll actively contribute to brainstorming new approaches, shaping compelling narratives for various audiences, and ensuring communications strategies seamlessly integrate with overall marketing efforts
  • Advance Hippo’s mission and business objectives through creative, data-driven storytelling and pitching media to drive coverage
  • Execute communications strategies, key company initiatives, including product launches, quarterly earnings, and industry events
  • Support Hippo’s communications directors and manage comms projects across the marketing team
  • Identify, research and create unique story angles that proactively insert Hippo into relevant conversations
  • Ideate and own the development of blog posts, press releases, talking points, FAQs, and media lists
  • Track, measure, and report on the impact of communications initiatives and generate a monthly internal newsletter using monitoring tools

Our take

Hippo Insurance is a disrupter brand in the insurance market, using technology to change the way home insurance is managed. Based on smart home monitoring systems, clients can monitor the security of their homes and fix minor issues that may turn into larger ones later down the line.

Part of the new 'insurtech' revolution, Hippo Insurance brings a modern way of thinking to the somewhat outdated insurance market. Headquartered in Palo Alto, Hippo is technology-first and AI-driven. Its policies and services are currently available to 80% of US homeowners across 37 states.

The multi-unicorn company has garnered interest from established insurers and home-building companies eager to ride the insurtech wave. However, following a completed business combination with Reinvent Technology Partners Z in 2021, 83% of the latter's raised capital was withdrawn from Hippo. Though it still began trading at a value of $5 billion that year, Hippo's dramatic change of fortunes with Reinvent exemplifies how unpredictable the insurtech market can be, even for major players.
