Role
Who you are
- BS or MS degree in an engineering discipline or equivalent experience
- 15+ years of experience in engineering, program management, or management consulting with a focus on process rollouts and product launches
- Success in driving complex SW/HW integration processes and optimizations, and leading complex cross-functional programs end to end
- Proficient in tools or processes required to manage complex projects (i.e. Gantt charts, risk matrices, Smartsheet, JIRA, etc.)
- Excellent written, presentation and verbal communication skills are a must, ability to create visualizations of KPIs and program risks
- Experience with autonomous vehicles, test platforms, simulation, and/or automotive or aerospace processes is highly desired
Desirable
- PMP or equivalent
- Experience with developing and scaling strategy, processes, plans, procedures, reporting and handling escalations
- Strong references that highlight your ability to build strong working relationships with senior leaders, program managers, and engineers across functions and departments
What the job involves
- The Senior Manager, Processes & Tools in PMO will work closely with the VP of Program Management and PMO leadership team to build and scale processes at Zoox, implement the necessary tooling and automation to support the same and ensure that we are building the foundational elements upon which Zoox can scale
- All the work done is towards giving PMO program managers and other cross-disciplinary teams visibility to track progress towards program milestones so that critical issues are identified with the right supporting data and used to get resolution from Zoox executive leadership
- Lead the effort to build and scale Zoox-wide processes and tools while maintaining a strong technical understanding of our vehicle platforms, software lifecycle, safety release process and test operations
- Partner with leaders across Zoox to translate the top-down corporate strategy and milestones into detailed product road maps, timelines, and deliverables
- Lead cross-functional teams to define and then track resource requirements (headcount and budget) as inputs to finance
- Comfortable leading in a gray space and enabling teams to deliver tangible results
- Influence key decisions working cross-functionally across engineering, operations, finance, and strategy and other teams to reach the right conclusions
- Define KPIs and other methods to measure metrics that best translate progress towards goals
- Be the key interface with stakeholders and leadership and exercise judgment and discretion to develop solutions to remove obstacles and redefine approaches
Our take
Zoox, a self-driving vehicle company, was founded to make personal transportation safer and more enjoyable for all. It has aimed to achieve this goal by creating a new mode of driverless transportation, thus eradicating the safety and logistical issues that come with human drivers.
It revealed its custom vehicle design in December 2020, showcasing something different from just a car without a driver. Uniquely, all four wheels are independent of one another, and the vehicles have no front or back, making them more agile than a standard car. Zoox claims that it is different from other industry players because it has created an entire driverless ecosystem, including the vehicle itself, allowing it to have more control.
The company is fast becoming a major player in an industry that is predicted to be worth $2 trillion by 2030. Electric motors are highly desirable, particularly in an urban environment, as governments look for ways to reduce emissions and improve air quality. Zoox is aiming to play a vital role in this evolution towards more sustainable urban mobility. Amazon acquired the company in 2020 and, despite a general downturn in the sector through 2022, is building a Zoox factory and budgeting $1 billion per year for future development and production.
