Role
Who you are
- 12+ years in software engineering, with at least 3+ years in a formal leadership or management role. Proven success in hiring, coaching, and scaling high-performing teams, ideally in a startup environment
- Strong foundation in software engineering, with proficiency in Python and experience building large-scale distributed systems. While this role emphasizes leadership, you should be able to engage deeply with technical discussions
- Familiarity with cloud platforms (AWS, Google Cloud) and containerization (Docker, Kubernetes) for scalable, resilient applications
- Passion for healthcare innovation and empowering individuals to better manage their health through technology
- Experience driving engineering processes that balance speed with quality, including Agile practices, test-driven development, and continuous integration/deployment
- Effective at leading and building culture in a distributed team environment. Strong communication skills and ability to build trust across time zones
- A continuous learner who challenges assumptions and inspires curiosity across the team

- Technical Proficiency: Advanced skills in a range of technologies, including Python for backend development, React and React Native for frontend and mobile app development, GCP for cloud services, and Postgres for database management. - Machine Learning Deployment: Experience in building and deploying machine learning services, showcasing your ability to leverage AI and machine learning to solve complex problems and enhance our platform's intelligence and user personalization
- Start-Up Experience: We highly value individuals with start-up experience, especially former founders or early engineering hires. This experience indicates a versatile skill set and an ability to thrive in fast-paced, evolving environments
- Familiarity with Health Technologies: Knowledge of or experience with popular health technologies, such as Oura, Whoop, Apple Watch, and CGMs (Continuous Glucose Monitors). An interest in or experience with health and wellness technologies suggests a passion for leveraging technology to improve personal and community health outcomes

Our take
With the predominant model of healthcare being routine checkups and care for severe discomfort, chronic disease and health disparity are on the rise in the US. Function Health is a company that promotes a continuous mode of healthcare by removing barriers to lab testing.
Founded by former employees at Google Research, Meta, Fitbit and Tonal, Function Health provides subscribers with new ways to manage their health, opting for preventative measures rather than treatment. It does this by providing members with all-in-one lab testing, with more than 100 different tests available. It quantifies results and insights in an accessible and actionable manner, making caring for your health easier to manage.
Having only come out of stealth in 2023, it's impressive to see Function already secure a substantial Series A round and a 50,000-plus membership base. Its disruptive model of preventative healthcare is clearly turning heads, and it will use its fresh funding to scale its platform to a wider market.
