One of the main problems in the events industry is the difficulty faced by secondary buyers and sellers when it comes to finding each other. Viagogo aims to solve this problem by building an online marketplace for secondary buyers and sellers of online event tickets.
Viagogo differentiates itself through the simplicity of its interface, aiming to offer a seamless experience for buyers and sellers. This represented a unique selling point for the company, taking into account the difficulty of using the options offered by other competitors, such as StubHub.
Viagogo acquired its rival StubHub in 2020 for $3.8bn, attracting the scrutiny of the UK's competition watchdogs who concluded that the merger reduces the competition in the UK secondary ticketing market. Consequently, the main challenge faced by the company now is finding a way to mediate the situation, most probably through selling all of StubHub’s business outside North America, as required by CMA.
