Role
Who you are
- 10+ years of a combination of experience within a public accounting firm and the corporate tax department of a multinational public company or high-growth start-up
- Proficient understanding of U.S. income and indirect tax reporting matters
- Exposure and perspective on international tax laws
- Experience in M&A related tax matters
- Relevant experience advising and working through employment related tax matters
- Primary contact for our Legal Team on tax related matters in our vendor and customer contracts
- Skilled in developing and executing tax planning and risk reduction strategies
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting; a Masters degree in Tax a plus

What the job involves
- The Global Finance Team collaborates as a strategic partner to departments across the Company. The Director of Tax, leads our internal tax function and is the go-to for all global tax matters
- As the Tax Director, you will lead Harry’s internal tax function
- You’ll be managing internal resources, and coordinating with the Company’s 3rd party tax advisors and auditors
- We are excited about building out this team and increasingly insourcing tax work
- This is an opportunity for a tax professional who is looking to build our internal tax compliance function from the ground up
- You will cover all areas of tax across the Company, including the U.S. and Non-U.S. income tax provision, U.S. and non-U.S. income tax compliance, indirect tax compliance and planning (e.g., sales tax, VAT, GST), property tax compliance, transfer pricing planning and documentation, legal entity set up / review, structuring M&A, intercompany agreement maintenance and tax audit management
- You will be working extensively with the global Finance team, as well as many other teams across the company and will manage one Senior Tax Analyst
- What you will accomplish:
- You will serve as a key leader on the Finance Team, leading a robust tax function and tax processes for the Company
- Own the quarterly / annual tax provision process and related tax journal entries in accordance with the preparation of our U.S. GAAP financial statements
- Oversee, coordinate with, and manage the Company’s 3rd party tax providers ensuring that all tax related issues are identified, communicated and resolved in a timely manner
- Continue to iterate and evolve effective and operationally sound tax strategies to reduce future tax burdens for each subsidiary and the consolidated company
- Own transfer pricing, internal management fees and intercompany agreements
- Review all tax compliance prepared by the Company’s 3rd party tax providers
- Coordinate the tax review and audit process with the Company’s external financial statement auditors
- Independently research tax related topics, including federal, state, and international tax developments that impact the Company
- Maintain focus on potential tax legislative changes that will impact the company and brief relevant internal stakeholders on these matters
- Internally consult with other departments regarding the tax impact of new products, geographies, acquisitions, contract negotiations, significant transactions, etc
- You will report to the Chief Financial Officer and work with the full Global Finance Team
- You will work cross functionally with other teams at Harry’s and be viewed as the subject matter expert for all things tax related
Our take
Harry’s Inc shot to fame in the years after its 2012 launch for developing and selling high quality, affordable men’s shaving and grooming products online. Between then and now, the company has grown tremendously, expanding into major retail stores, and launching three more brands: Women’s shaving products company Flamingo, hair care-focused Headquarters, as well as cat food brand Cat Person.
Though a billion dollar sale to consumer brand corporation Edgewell was surprisingly blocked by the Federal Trade Commission in 2020, Harry’s product and brand diversification actually led to a significant boost in sales.
The blocked sale of the company, while a shock at the time, has proven to be a blessing in disguise. Harry’s has gone on to raise hundreds of millions of dollars, which it has used to expand its portfolio of brands – all in keeping with its aim of becoming a major multi-category consumer packaged goods (CPG) company.
