Role
Who you are
- Experience with database administration, using a SQL dialect
- Experience in data engineering, with a background in data architecture, data modeling and data management
- Comfortable working and thriving within a Linux ecosystem
- Experience supporting high availability distributed production systems
- Treated infrastructure as code utilizing tools like Terraform, Ansible, Chef, and SaltStack
- Familiarity working in a public cloud platform (GCP, AWS, Azure)
- Software development skills in at least one of the following languages: Python, Go, Javascript, and/or Ruby
- B.S. or M.S. in Computer Science or related field or equivalent in related work experience
- Strong English language skills and ability to work independently, as an effective part of a globally distributed team
- Ability to learn about the supply chain security space
Desirable
- Experience using dbt, BigQuery and Google Cloud Storage
- Experience using Kafka or Spark in designing data processing pipelines
- Experience integrating with Looker or other BI tools
- Experience scaling services in a performant and cost-effective manner
- Knowledge of microservices architecture and containerization (Docker/OCI, Kubernetes)
- Linux systems troubleshooting and debugging skills
- Interest in open source software projects and communities
What the job involves
- We are seeking a talented and experienced Software Engineer to join our team to develop and maintain the core infrastructure and development platform
- The platform team is responsible for designing, building, and scaling our core services, including authentication, database, API, SDK, and chainctl
- In this role, you will be responsible for improving our data story, helping support analytical needs for the organization
- Help maintain and expand our analytics data and dashboards
- Maintain our primary database and schema
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to understand product requirements and translate them into technical solutions
- Develop and maintain core services for Chainguard
- Practice continuous improvement, by iterating on how services are deployed, configured, monitored, and maintained on our platform

Our take
Developers rely on open source code and apps in their day to day work, but when the provenance of the code is unknown this creates potential weaknesses that cybercriminals can exploit. Chainguard exists to build security into the coding supply chain by making it possible for companies to enforce security policies based on auditable signatures baked into the code, and by providing a security-first set of container images with no known vulnerabilities for cloud app developers.
In the wake of huge cyber attacks like the Log4j vulnerability and Solarwinds breach, software supply chain security has been an area of major focus for startups hoping to solve problems in this sector. However, most of these focus on scanning and detection of threats. Chainguard's approach comes from the other end of the process, focusing on building security into the software itself. It was built by former Google engineers aware of software developers existing workloads, so is designed to be easily installed and integrated into existing automation systems like Terraform.
Chainguard completed a Series C funding round led by Lightspeed Ventures in 2024, minting it as a new Unicorn on the cybersecurity scene. It is using this funding to expand its go-to-market internationally and expand its Chainguard Images product.
