Role
Who you are
- You’ll understand the power and importance of quantitative data to assess the impact of design, and draw insights to iterate and optimise experience, playing back your explorations with clear narratives, woven together with data and research
- You should be passionate about product design and looking for an opportunity to disrupt and define a product that is changing the way we travel and inspiring millions of people across the UK and Europe to make more environmentally sustainable travel choices every day
- We’re looking for creative big thinkers with small egos to achieve our ambitious plans
- Most importantly, you’ll bring exceptional delivery within a fast-paced consumer-focused tech or travel business
- You might be a couple of years into your Design career, or you might be just starting out
- Exceptional communication and storytelling skills, adept at conveying concepts to stakeholders and wider team
- Expertise in both UX thinking as well as UI visuals, working independently to solve for real user needs on web and app
- Proficiency in using data and customer insights to validate ideas and drive positive customer behaviour
- Experience in data-informed experimentation such as A/B or multivariate testing
- Hands-on, action-oriented approach to solving creative challenges, inspiring creativity and design excellence within the team
- A self-starter mentality with strong collaboration skills with Engineers, Product Managers, and broader business teams
- Proficiency in Figma for day-to-day design work, international expertise is a plus — particularly in France, Spain and Italy
What the job involves
- Come aboard and help us execute our vision of best-in-class Aggregation across UK & Europe in our brand new team
- You’ll be in the hot seat for Supply — integrating and growing the capabilities of our train carriers
- This means designing for our award-winning app and website, shipping features like seat maps, new fares and check-in
- It’s a highly complex and challenging space, with hundreds of carriers and fares
- With our incredible growth across Europe, we’re bringing new carriers all the time — and the existing ones don’t stand still either!
- Whether it’s integrations which need deep discovery thinking, or existing features that need expanding across markets, you’ll be reaching the customer at all touchpoints
- Therefore, you’ll understand and solve customer needs across a wide spectrum, working closely with Product and Engineering partners to ship in a high-velocity team
- You’ll also have opportunities to support the rest of the team on value and aggregation initiatives, such as upselling, search and post-sales
- You’ll be supported but critically empowered to operate independently, executing against the end-to-end design process to deliver innovative and visually polished tactical solutions, as well as contribute to Trainline’s overall Aggregation strategy
- We ship new products at speed and employ a ‘build/test/learn’ mentality around our product development
- To this end, success lies in your customer-centric mindset, your ability to challenge thinking and develop our relationships with carriers
- This is an outstanding opportunity to come in and shape the future of rail retail as well as boost your design career, working within one of the most mature and established UX Teams in Travel

Trainline make it super easy to book transport tickets. Its app is intuitive and well designed and its even pioneering paperless travel, allowing users to store their tickets in the app.
It's hyper-focused on customer experience and has a product culture of fast iteration to deliver great outcomes for customers. Its customers make 170,000 journeys a day and it sells 200 tickets a minute.
Its continuing to innovate to stay ahead, using machine learning to predict price movements and integrating with Siri and Google Assistant so people can buy tickets simply by speaking to their phone.
