Role
Who you are
- Strong track record: 5+ years of product management experience in high-growth environments, with experience in the financial services industry (FinTech, challenger bank, etc.) highly preferred
- Experience with payment systems and third-party payment partners. Working knowledge of loan servicing processes and procedures. Understanding of servicing multiple products across systems
- Experience working with business executives from many disciplines (compliance, risk, operations, fraud, technology, business intelligence, finance, training, legal, cybersecurity, etc.) to understand the need, define features, and prioritize and manage scope to operate in an iterative agile delivery framework
- Customer-centric: You are passionate about improving the financial health of Oportun’s members
- Analytical problem solver: You have experience working and delivering on complex problems. You excel in making data-informed decisions (testing and experimentation, defining metrics, data analysis)
- Collaborative: You have a track record of shipping and iterating on impactful products that required partnering with and building consensus across a wide group of cross-functional partners
- Excellent communicator: You are a clear and concise communicator, and you have superb documentation skills
- Execution: You’re scrappy, solution-oriented, and able to help the team push through obstacles and blockers to deliver value for our members
- Bonus Points: You have experience launching products within complex legal and regulatory frameworks such as Finance, experience with SQL, and experience working with a multi-national workforce

- As a Senior Product Manager, you will articulate product strategy, set objectives and key results, define roadmaps, and work with the cross-functional team to deliver best-in-class solutions. - Strategic Leadership: Develop and execute a comprehensive product strategy aligned with the company’s vision and growth objectives. Identify market opportunities and set long-term product roadmaps
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Lead a high-performing cross-functional product team that includes engineering, design, data, marketing, and others to implement and build new capabilities and increase reliability and scalability. Drive strong collaboration and alignment up, down and sideways within the organization
- Customer Focus: Advocate for the customer by gathering and analyzing feedback, conducting market research, and leveraging data to drive product decisions. Ensure that product features and enhancements deliver exceptional user experiences
- Performance Metrics: Establish and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure product success and impact. Use data-driven insights to optimize product performance and make informed decisions
- Stakeholder Communication: Communicate product vision, strategy, and updates to executive leadership, board members, and other key stakeholders. Present compelling business cases and demonstrate the value of product investments

Following the company’s acquisition of former competitor Digit, it has expanded its services to offer a wider range of bank features – now providing personal loans, credit cards, saving accounts, and an investment app.
Younger generations have struggled with the “you have to have credit to build credit” as legacy banking systems tend to give those beginning their credit journeys a bad deal. Capitalizing on the growth in popularity of mobile banking apps, companies like Oportun provide affordable and accessible financial services to the vast majority of Millennials and Gen Z already using mobile banking apps.
While Oportun faces a number of strong market competitors, its millions of customers have accessed more than $14 billion in credit and $2.3 billion in interest and fee savings, and will use a recent loan from Neuberger Berman to support the continued growth in the business.
