Our take

The operational intensity of managing physical retail has meant that the channel has traditionally been use more for customer experience than P&L improvement in hospitality venues. Wundermart’s technology platform is changing that.

The startup hopes to ‘democratise retail’ by blending advances in automation, data analysis and computer vision into a unified technology platform that can deliver zero-staff profitable retail operations practically wherever they are wanted.

Hotels have been Wundermart’s first eager clients. The company is now hoping to expand into new verticals, delivering their stores to new channels like unmanned gas stations.

The company has purposefully branded itself as the ‘Shopify of retail’. The association perhaps gives investors and clients confidence as the Dutch-based startup looks to compete with the emerging powerhouse of AmazonGo.
