Role
Who you are
- You are comfortable working at the intersection of software engineering and cloud platform design
- You understand that backend services in this environment are not only CRUD APIs, but part of a larger orchestration layer coordinating CloudStack, Kubernetes, container runtimes, identity systems, metering, messaging, and observability stacks
- Strong backend engineering experience in cloud, platform, or infrastructure-heavy environments
- Able to work full-stack, with backend as the primary strength and frontend delivery as part of the role
- Proven experience building production APIs and service-oriented backend systems
- Comfortable designing integrations with infrastructure APIs and external platform components
- Experience with distributed systems, asynchronous workflows, and event-driven patterns
- Strong understanding of reliability, state management, idempotency, and failure handling in orchestration-heavy systems
- Able to translate low-level infrastructure capabilities into productized platform services
- Experience with identity, provisioning, metering, billing, or control plane systems is a strong plus
- Familiarity with Kubernetes and cloud infrastructure concepts is highly desirable
- Pragmatic, hands-on, and able to balance speed with maintainability and operational quality
- Able to independently own major components or features from design through production rollout
What the job involves
- Mission: Design and build the backend services, APIs, and control plane workflows that power a multi-tenant GPU cloud platform
- This role will sit at the core of the product and turns infrastructure capabilities such as provisioning, identity, metering, deployment, and orchestration into reliable platform services consumable by internal teams, customers, and user-facing applications
- This role is primarily backend-driven, but also includes delivery of user-facing platform interfaces using TypeScript/JavaScript and AI-assisted frontend development
- You will build the platform logic behind the GPUaaS offering. You will work on the control plane that connects cloud infrastructure, workflow orchestration, identity, billing and usage metering, and platform lifecycle operations into a coherent product
- You will design and implement backend services in Go, expose clean and secure APIs, and translate infrastructure primitives into product-grade platform capabilities. This includes provisioning flows, image and deployment workflows, service integration, state handling, auditability, and operational reliability across distributed systems
- Design, implement, and maintain backend platform services in Go
- Build and evolve control plane APIs for platform and product capabilities
- Develop durable provisioning and lifecycle workflows using orchestration patterns
- Build and maintain frontend and control plane UI components using TypeScript/JavaScript
- Use AI-assisted development tools to accelerate frontend implementation, iteration, and refactoring
- Integrate infrastructure systems such as CloudStack, Kubernetes, container runtimes, and image management into product APIs
- Connect platform services with identity, usage metering, billing, and audit systems
- Model platform state and service interactions across distributed components
- Build robust integrations with systems such as Temporal, Keycloak, OpenMeter, MongoDB, PostgreSQL, RabbitMQ, Kafka, Redis, and ClickHouse
- Ensure backend services are secure, observable, testable, and operationally reliable
- Collaborate closely with DevOps, and infrastructure engineers to deliver end-to-end platform features
- Contribute to engineering standards, service design patterns, and API quality across the platform

Our take
Developments in the AI sector have increased the strain on data centres and chips, generating more heat from their processes than ever before. Cooling methods using air and water are not keeping pace with the amount of energy needed to support AI. Submer is on a mission to build data centres and processing plants that are as sustainable as they are efficient.
Submer’s eco-friendly product for data centres and chip processing is built from a coolant of non-flammable, biodegradable and synthetic liquid that physically acts in the same way as water. The racks for servers are stored and operate from within a smart container which further lessens the heat produced by data centres. Submer’s range of products even allows for the coolant to be reused via a heat exchanger.
It’s an inspired solution for an increasingly pressing problem. Data centres are going nowhere, yet the vital need for greener energy solutions puts pressure on these industries. It’s unsurprising then that Submer has raised considerable funding that is being channelled into the expansion of its product. Server component manufacturers are even beginning to build their products to be compatible with Submer’s, indicating the eagerness with which the industry is welcoming the solution.
