Role
Who you are
- 8+ years as a PM, with recent experience working on a SAAS, data or platform product
- Experience working on products at a global scale, and understanding the data, legal, and technical nuances of supporting complex products
- Strong technical background to enable you to contribute meaningful features and seamless integration
- Excellent user experience skills and attention to detail. You have an instinct for good product design and an understanding of usability best practices
- An ability to manage project ambiguity, complexity, and interdependencies in an organized and structured way

What the job involves
- In this role as a Senior Staff Product Manager, Core Products, you will deliver products and capabilities for Checkr’s core background check products, growing the quality, speed, scale, and user experience across criminal background check products
- You will play a pivotal role in differentiating Checkr’s core products and delighting candidates & customers as well as partnering closely with internal teams on fulfillment and operations
- Roles and responsibilities include creating the strategy & roadmap for key areas of the core product, leading development of new product features, analyzing data and performing user research, and managing a high-performing cross-functional team that includes engineering, data, design, marketing, legal, and others
- Build deep understanding and empathy for external and internal users of Checkr
- Use data and insight to drive new product capabilities
- Identify opportunities and drive technology improvements that result in more accurate and reliable data for customers
- Drive the product roadmap and strategy for a broad product surface area within our core product
- Collaborate with engineering and product design and product marketing to ship new, impactful features
- Lead meetings with sales, product marketing, customer success, business development, customers and technology partners to deeply understand, document, analyze and synthesize customer needs into product priorities, roadmap plans, and detailed specifications
- Drive cross-functional decisions & alignment. Effectively communicate across all departments in the company
Our take
Checkr addresses the unpleasant and time consuming process of background checks so that companies using on-demand employees can make safer, more informed hiring decisions in less time. Background checks are a critical part of the hiring process, and CEO Daniel Yannisse noticed that they were painfully slow, resulting in loss of work for candidates and productivity downturns for employers.
Before Checkr entered the market in 2014 with its innovative AI technology and a solid $50m in venture capital funding, companies were waiting upwards of two weeks for their checks. Checkr substantially reduces this time frame and has grown to receive a $5 billion valuation.
Checkr has accelerated growth by making several highly advantageous acquisitions of competitor companies GoodHire and Inflection. As the world of work embraces diversity and inclusion, the company announced an end-to-end service for candidates wishing to expunge their criminal records, furthering the company’s ‘fair chance’ mission and clearing 1000s of candidates for free since 2021. New products launched at the end of 2023 include Checkr Pay (providing access to payment right after a shift) and Checkr Onboard (unified onboarding processes), exemplifying how Checkr is keeping pace with a rapidly changing, flexible, and mobile-first workforce.
