Role
Who you are
- Proficiency with one or more programming languages (PHP, Python, Go, Ruby or other equivalent languages)
- Experience working with full-stack frameworks and technologies such as Ruby on Rails, Django, Laravel, or equivalent
- Experience working with third party APIs (bonus points for Zendesk experience)
- The ability to communicate frequently in an inclusive, thoughtful and kind manner
- Prior experience in either implementing or actively using metrics, logging and tracing systems - A track record of consistent delivery and a “can do” attitude!
What the job involves
- This team’s primary responsibility is to build features and tooling which support sellers’ ability to handle order issues in Etsy’s marketplace
- This involves multi-functional collaboration with product managers, designers, data analysts, and engineering teams to deliver high-quality seller experiences across multiple channels, including Zendesk, support chat, and order help requests
- The Seller Support Availability team is committed to building, optimizing, and maintaining the systems which support our 7M sellers
- The team works closely with Agent Tooling engineers as well as product managers, designers, and analysts in an effort to provide Etsy sellers with the resources needed to handle order help requests and cases
- Building and maintaining seller support software written in PHP and React/Typescript
- Working closely with third-party APIs, such as Zendesk, to provide stellar support to our sellers
- Consistently and proactively breaking down large features into multiple stages for delivery
- Identifying and resolving difficult architectural and technical trade-offs
- Frequently collaborate with teammates based out of various locations across the US and Mexico
- Build and maintain software written in PHP and React/Typescript
- Work closely with third-party APIs, such as Zendesk, to provide stellar support to our sellers
- Consistently and proactively break down large features into multiple stages for delivery
- Identify and resolve difficult architectural and technical trade-offs
- Collaborate with teammates across various subject areas, including engineering, product management, product design, and data analytics
- Balance immediate feature delivery with long-term technology improvements
- Use data to help scope, define, and measure your work
- Foster an inclusive team environment by seeking and offering feedback on work and highlighting others' accomplishments

Our take
Created as an alternative to more corporate eCommerce sites, Etsy is a peer-to-peer (P2P) website where users buy and sell handmade crafts, vintage items, art and photography. The online marketplace works similarly to Amazon and eBay, only with an emphasis on unique items rather than mass-produced merchandise.
Since its IPO in 2015, it has managed to hold its own in an increasingly competitive eCommerce industry, including from Amazon's handmade section that launched in 2015. Further, by providing sellers with ownership over pricing and branding, the site is attractive for those wanting to set up a business on an established platform.
However, the seller-side of Etsy is not without problems. A hike in transaction fees and the introduction of mandatory marketing fees for artists with high turnovers created significant discontent amongst sellers. Despite this, Etsy continues to connect artists and consumers, attracting shoppers with its message of extraordinary, handmade and affordable products.
