Who you are
- 7+ years of customer facing experience selling to large enterprises, including experience in financial services or selling to financial services companies
- Experience that combines business experience and technical acumen
- Strong sense of customer empathy
- Consultative selling approach
- Strong communications skills with a confident and proactive approach to client management
- Ability to understand new technologies and complex concepts quickly
- Intellectually curious, with a focus on using AI to scale impact
- Familiar with web services, APIs, and standards like HTTP and REST
- Understanding of mobile and web app architecture for API integration
- Willing and able to travel up to 25% of the time
- Nice to have: Knowledge in payments, fraud, risk
What the job involves
- Sales Engineering unlocks and empowers prospects’ full potential on the Plaid Network
- We bring product expertise and drive Revenue outcomes by being customer-obsessed technical advisors in the pre-sales process
- You’ll work closely with our growing Banking and Wealth Sales team as the technical lead during the pre-sales process
- You will be responsible for partnering with Account Executives, proactively pushing deals forward by overcoming technical objections and evangelizing Plaid solutions to technical and executive stakeholders
- You will guide customers through thorough technical scoping, ensuring foundational architectural decisions set customers up for long-term success
- You can effectively pivot from technical discussions to business value conversations focusing on customer outcomes
- You will ensure a successful transition to the post-sale stage of the customer lifecycle and partner with account teams to drive adoption of new products by existing customers
- You will be expected to have significant knowledge of the financial services industry and a deep understanding of how clients can best utilize Plaid
- Serve as the lead technical product lead for Enterprise accounts throughout the sales process
- Partner with Account Executives as the technical lead for Enterprise accounts to to design solutions and share best practices throughout the sales process
- Demonstrate to prospects how Plaid can best address their use cases and technical requirements
- Engage deeply with technical stakeholders in the pre-sales process to drive alignment and buy-in
- Provide demonstrations, address technical questions, architect implementation solution(s) and handle RFP responses in a thorough and expedient manner
- Take a hands-on role in POCs, where inquisitive and critical thinking is needed to identify, diagnose, and rectify any performance shortfalls
- Constantly re-evaluate selling assets and process to enable more efficient/effective messaging to customers
- Work with our engineering and product teams to translate prospect feedback into meaningful product insights
- Collaborate with current SE team to up-level team knowledge and capabilities
Our take
Plaid builds infrastructure that allows a consumer to interact with their bank account on the web through a number of third-party applications, like Venmo, Robinhood, Coinbase, Acorns and LendingClub.
Plaid has integrated with 12,000 financial institutions in the US, Canada, the UK and Europe. About a quarter of people living in North America with bank accounts have linked with Plaid through at least one of the hundreds of apps that leverage Plaid’s application program interfaces (APIs). The platform allows companies to create financial services applications without having to hire their own team of engineers to build out a tool that connects apps to its users’ bank accounts.
This is very valuable in a world where there are increasing number of fintechs, so the demand for Plaid's services are only going to grow. Despite its strong position, it has not been immune to the difficult global economic situtation and was forced to restructure at the end of 2022, laying off some of its workforce. However it is still experiencing growth and is well-positioned to weather the current economic uncertainty.
