To enable farmers to replace chemicals with natural rock powders from local mines.
InPlanet is a carbon dioxide removal (CDR) company, tackling the challenge of carbon emissions in agriculture - particularly in tropical regions heavily reliant on synthetic fertilisers. It does this through a method known as enhanced rock weathering (ERW).
Throughout the Earth’s history, most atmospheric CO₂ has been removed through weathering of silicate rocks. InPlanet accelerates this natural process, by crushing these types of rocks and spreading them as rock powders on agricultural land - which also increases the soil quality of the land.
The company plans to remove 1 million metric tons of CO₂ by 2026, emphasising ERW's potential for both carbon removal and sustainable agriculture. Seed funding secured in late 2023 is being allocated to scale Measurement, Reporting, and Verification (MRV) capabilities, facilitating the company's ambitious and transformative plans.
