Who you are
- High school degree, GED equivalent, or practical experience
- Not currently enrolled in or completed a Bachelor’s, Master’s, or PhD degree program in a data analyst-related field
- Less than 1 year of relevant data analyst experience
- Experience using Google Workspace or a similar suite of productivity tools
- Experience thinking critically and excellent problem solving capabilities
- Ability to work independently and within a team framework
- Ability to navigate ambiguous tasks, find suitable solutions, and seek help/advice where appropriate
- Enthusiasm and passion for new technologies, demonstrated through personal projects and commitment to learning new skills
- Excellent communication and organizational skills, self-motivated, positive attitude, and excellent customer service capabilities
What the job involves
- Use data to glean insights, drive business decisions, and quantify business impact
- Conduct custom analysis to uncover industry insights for Google's customer and internal teams
- Optimize media by measuring/integrating business performance data in Google Ads platforms and measuring media impact across all marketing channels by using Google’s measurement solutions and third-party tools
- Design statistically significant experiments/tests to answer research questions
- Assess the right tools/languages to be used to solve business problems
Our take
Google's fast growth since incorporation has triggered a chain of products, acquisitions, and partnerships beyond Google's core search engine product. Despite 80% of revenue coming from advertising services, it's known for continually investing in 'moonshot' projects (like self-driving cars) in an effort to find the next big pillar of the business.
Google recently announced an investment of $9.5bn to expand its offices and data centres in the US. This investment is connected to the company’s ambitious green goal of operating on carbon-free energy full-time by 2030, and will partly focus on setting new standards for green building design.
Following years of rapid hiring, and faced with a broader slowdown of ad spending, the company is being faced by weaker-than-expected revenue. CEO Sundar Pichai has recently announced that Google is reducing its head count by about 12,000 to adapt to global economic conditions. It will move to refocus its talent and capital to the company's highest priorities.
