Who you are
- Strong technical skills in manipulating large data sets with complex SQL and Python
- Expertise in data visualization
- Experience with cloud data warehousing (e.g. Snowflake,Bigquery,Redshift)
- Excellent communication skills, and the proven ability to translate business requirements into data models and maintain clear documentation
- Comfortable with software engineering best practices such as unit testing and version control
- Experience with machine learning feature engineering
- Results-driven: keeping things as simple as possible to achieve the product goals
- Curiosity: willing to dive deep into product strategies and business context
- Able to build and maintain multi-functional relationships with various teams across the business
- Experience working in the risk management domain is a plus
- Experience with dbt is a plus
What the job involves
- The Fraud Data Science & Engineering team consists of data scientists and analytics developers that are responsible for delivering state-of-the-art data infrastructure and predictive modelling solutions to support data-driven risk management at Wealthsimple
- We're a highly collaborative group, with seasoned data experts and well supported by product managers, software developers, and risk strategists
- We are hiring for a Senior Analytics Developer for the Fraud DSE team
- You will be responsible for building robust, efficient and integrated data models that enable our fraud analytics and machine learning
- These core data models will serve as the foundation of our fraud strategy, allowing the team to monitor and detect fraud trends, build machine learning models, and launch new fraud defenses
- A successful Sr Analytics Developer is able to blend business acumen and software engineering best practices while effectively communicating with stakeholders
- Build data models in the cloud data warehouse that will be used as the source of truth for analytics and predictive modelling
- Apply software engineering best practices like version control and continuous integration to the analytics code base
- Ideate and implement new machine learning model features by contributing to the internal Feature Store
- Translate business requirements into data models that will help stakeholders answer key business questions
- Support end-to-end development of reports/dashboards/tools used by your direct stakeholders and a diverse set of teams across the company
- Ensure data models are well tested, documented and maintained
- Believe that simple is better, Occam's razor is your friend
- Take ownership and ship it
- You release incrementally and iteratively

Our take
Wealthsimple is one of a crop of robo-advisors trying to democratize investment management. These companies are disrupting the industry by automating many of the processes involved in investment removing the need for human advisors.
But while other so-called robo-advisors are focused on courting the high end of the market, Wealthsimple is trying to provide the same types of tools and advice to all users, regardless of the amount they have to invest.
Wealthsimple does have higher fees than some other robo-advisors such as Betterment and Charles Schwab. However, the company believes that it provides a more user-friendly platform, tailored to millennials who will be attracted to Wealthsimple due to its ease of use and social impact offerings.
