Role
Who you are
- We are looking for people who have 15+ years of professional software development experience with an education or working experience in Background in engineering, scientific computing, or simulation software
- You will be a highly advanced software engineer typically beginning to become hyper-focused/specialised, a team member who makes important product decisions regarding direction and scope and be comfortable acting as the single point for engineering within MStar
- Strong C++ development background
- Advanced level in developing desktop GUI applications for technical or scientific software
- Python for API development and automation
- Familiarity with CI/build systems and release engineering
- Hands-on experience managing AWS infrastructure and services
- Experience with 3D CAD or Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) software environments
- Comfortable working across the full stack: GUI, API, infrastructure, and operations
Desirable
- Experience with software licensing systems
- Familiarity with cross-platform frameworks (e.g., Qt)
- Knowledge of security best practices for cloud deployments
What the job involves
- We are seeking an experienced Senior Software Engineer to our M-Star team
- M-Star is modern computational fluid dynamics (CFD) software that provides first-principles modeling tools for scientists and engineers, generating predictions that are functionally indistinguishable from measured data
- As the Principal Software Engineer you will maintain and enhance our cross-platform desktop GUI applications and cloud-based infrastructure
- This role combines C++ desktop development, Python API enhancement, CI/build system ownership, and AWS-based deployment and licensing system support
- The engineer should have strong experience with technical software
- This job involves the full software lifecycle: from user interface to backend infrastructure
- You will work in a small yet highly effective and efficient specialised team, who deliver world class CFD software to multiple industries including Life Sciences, Chemical Material, Industrial and much more
- In this role will work alongside colleagues who have the brightest minds, holding PhDs and who regularly write research papers and speak at conferences
- Maintain and enhance cross-platform desktop GUI applications (Windows/Linux)
- Develop and extend a Python-based API that integrates with the core application
- Support user workflows in technically complex software environments (e.g., 3D CAD, CFD)
- Ensure performance, stability, and usability of engineering-focused GUI tools
- Maintain and operate the software build server and continuous integration pipelines
- Manage release processes and versioned software distribution
- Support and maintain license control systems and related backend services
- Maintain AWS-based software distribution and business operations systems
- Manage and configure AWS services, including:
- EC2, RDS, S3, ECR
- IAM, WAF, CloudFront
- CloudTrail, Security Lake
- Support operational tooling across AWS and other cloud providers
- Ensure security, scalability, and reliability of cloud infrastructure
