- Track record of product strategy development and execution
- Iterative product development experience
- Bonus points if you have experience working in a content team or if you’re familiar with WordPress and open source technologies
What the job involves
- We are seeking a senior product manager to work on our content management products for large organizations
- You will join our mission to empower customers to create connections through the power of content
- The successful candidate will collaborate with a cross-functional team working from customer discovery to launch to analyzing the outcomes achieved
- You’ll work on the complete product lifecycle of our enterprise-focused content management features
- You’ll help define strategy, and work with teams to understand problems and develop delightful solutions—ultimately ensuring we deliver solutions that impact our customers’ businesses
- Deeply understand our customers’ needs, pains, joys, frustrations, and their job to be done
- Work with executives and engineering directors to align on product strategy and vision
- Collaborate with your partners in a cross-functional team, including engineers and designers, to define solutions which delight our customers, helping them make progress against their outcomes
- Effectively communicate with business and product team members to focus a motivated, smart team on the most impactful opportunities
- Use qualitative and quantitative measures to determine the impact of the solution
Our take
At a time when companies like Facebook, Apple, and Google were turning into monopolistic market leaders, Automattic was building its open-source infrastructure on a distributed, volunteer-run workforce. Since its launch in 2005, the company has continued to evolve and expand as it built its new web empire.
Automattic is the company behind WordPress (which powers roughly 42% of all websites), Jetpack, Tumblr, Simplenote, WooCommerce (which is believed to run more than a quarter of all online storefronts), Longreads, Crowdsignal, Atavist, Day One, and more.
The company’s “Five for the Future” initiative allocates 5% of its resources to further the development of WordPress, and many other companies that utilize Automattic’s communities follow some version of the initiative, contributing back code and time to support the community. Still spinning out new projects such as an anti-spam filter and online identity safeguards, the unicorn company is a powerhouse that is well set to continue its path to long-lasting growth.
