Role
Who you are

- Experience building production applications with Ruby on Rails, React, and Typescript
- Exceptional understanding of REST APIs
- A solid understand of the publishing space, newsletter industry, and advertising
- Comfortable writing thorough tests and prioritizing QA and related processes
- Strong troubleshooting skills
- Experience working with an agile development team
- 3+ years of relevant work experience
Desirable
- Experience building Ad Tech and core infrastructure for ad networks at scale
- Experience or exposure to machine learning
- Experience using Heroku, Sentry, Github
- Familiarity with email-specific topics
- Experience working on small, highly productive engineering teams
- Experience optimizing high throughput postgres databases
- Keen design eye and a passion for building great user experiences
- Experience with Clickhouse, Kafka and kubernetes
What the job involves
- Reporting to: Ads Software Engineering lead
- Working across the stack on our Advertising platform, building better experiences for publishers and advertisers
- Helping integrate and build predictive models and advertisement
- Building fraud detection systems to improve the quality of data integrity via the ad network
- Prioritizing and triaging a backlog of in-demand feature requests and bugs
- Transitioning our tech ecosystem into a more robust and performant version of itself, continuously optimizing for scale
- Documenting your thought processes and development
- Bringing new ideas to work, suggesting creative solutions, and collaborating with others to bring the absolute best product to market

Our take
As the way people consume media evolves, it has become clear that audiences are interested in paying directly for content from their favourite creators. Newsletters are a great way for writers to deliver this sort of content to readers, but delivering and monetizing them can be complex. Beehiiv supplies a platform to manage newsletter creation, optimize engagement and monetize content, so that writers can make the most of them whilst keeping the time to concentrate on creating.
Founded in 2021, Beehiiv is one of a bunch of new competitors to the established newsletter platform Substack, with rivals including offerings from Facebook, Twitter, and Google. Where the company seeks to stand out is in making it easier for smaller creators to monetize their work, instead of focussing on the top percentile that already have established audiences. The platform is comprehensive and user-friendly, making it a good option for those just starting out with newsletters.
Beehiiv has secured good levels of funding to grow its reach and expand its technical capabilities. Users have received the product well, and the company claims to send out 1 billion emails per month from roughly 20,000 content creators.
