Who you are
- Experience scaling a codebase to a large number of users and engineers
- Track record of successful projects utilizing Typescript and Node.js or another backend technology
- Experience writing scalable, performant server-side code
- A leader, willing to take ownership for the success of the team
- Outstanding problem-solving skills and ability to communicate solutions clearly
- Strong background of successfully mentoring engineers
- Enjoys building a collaborative atmosphere to create solutions to complex problems
- 7+ years in a software development role
- 5+ years experience with Node.js or another backend technology
- 3+ years experience leading and implementing complex designs
- Experience with TypeScript is preferred
- Experience with a system deployed in an AWS environment is preferred
What the job involves
- GameChanger's Revenue Growth Team is responsible for increasing subscription rates through A/B testing, building new subscription purchase flows, and iterating quickly to determine what features are most valuable to users of GameChanger
- The Growth Team is responsible for the entire experimentation platform as well as subscriptions, pricing, and packaging
- As a Staff Backend Software Engineer, you’ll be responsible for setting the long term technical direction for our subscription and pricing services
- You’ll also make architectural decisions within our backend in order to support our web, iOS, and Android clients
- Develop and maintain scalable, robust, and efficient backend services
- Drive changes to our API and SDK to facilitate server/client communication
- Improve our ability to experiment and iterate within our backend
- Lead architectural decisions to ensure productivity + efficiency as our codebase grows
- Improve existing systems' performance, reliability, scalability, and develop new features
- Work closely with cross-functional teams to understand requirements and translate them into technical solutions
- Ensure system security and data privacy compliance
- Participate in code reviews to maintain code quality and share knowledge
- Create and maintain technical documentation for reference and reporting
Our take
The competitive nature of sports has always been driven by scorekeeping, and nowadays results are often consumed online. However, for smaller teams it can be difficult to provide this information digitally, as they do not have dedicated web development staff.
GameChanger provides a scorekeeping and statistics platform for sports teams to engage with their fans, that allows viewers to track the progress of a game in real-time similar to with professional sports. The company also embeds a live-streaming service into the platform to facilitate remote viewing, helping to increase audience engagement.
Whilst some sports teams already stream events on platforms such as Twitch and YouTube, most do not have the technical resources to achieve this. GameChanger has recognised this gap in the market, providing a simple yet unified platform for sports scoreboards and streaming, providing a fair opportunity for any team to maximise their community engagement.
