What the job involves
- As a Senior Software Engineer (Python), you will build the product-facing services that power personalized user experiences across Cafeyn
- You will develop high-performance backend systems supporting recommendations, search, content discovery, and dynamic content experiences used by millions of readers
- You will work closely with Product Managers, Data Scientists, and Backend Engineers to transform data and algorithms into customer-facing features
- Design and develop Python services powering recommendations and search
- Build APIs consumed by Cafeyn products
- Participate in architecture decisions
- Develop low-latency services
- Build real-time data processing applications
- Optimize performance and scalability
- Ensure service reliability under high traffic
- Write maintainable and testable code
- Conduct code reviews
- Improve CI/CD pipelines
- Maintain technical documentation
- Partner with Product teams to define technical solutions
- Collaborate with Data Scientists to operationalize models
- Work with Infrastructure teams on deployment and scalability

The decline of print media, which is only predicted to continue, has left newspapers and magazines in real trouble. Cafeyn offers these businesses a way out, through its app that enables users to access hundreds of newspapers and magazines from one place.
Users pay a monthly subscription fee, and in return receive access to a huge range of content. At the same time, newspapers and magazines access a much broader market than before, which could rescue them from a slump in revenue.
E-reading platforms have exploded in recent years, and Cafeyn faces some fierce competition. That said, the company's strategy is to strengthen partnerships with publishers while expanding its presence internationally, working hard to replicate the success it has already had in existing markets.
