Who you are
- Prior experience working in a regulatory, enforcement, legal or compliance environment, with a clear focus on fairness, consumer protection and accountability
- Prior experience leading and developing teams, focused on enabling delivery through others and creating an inclusive, high-performing culture
- Prior experience engaging and influencing senior stakeholders, using clear written and verbal communication to build trusted relationships and explain complex issues effectively
- Legal or regulatory experience, ideally with knowledge of unfair terms legislation, including the Consumer Rights Act 2015
- Advanced analytical skills and practical judgment, with the ability to weigh complex legal and regulatory risks
- Ability to balance strategic thinking with attention to detail and deliver high-quality outcomes
- Build effective relationships and collaborate with colleagues and stakeholders to meet shared objectives
- Familiarity with the FCA Handbook, particularly UNFCOG and the Consumer Duty
- A deep commitment to consumer protection and delivering positive outcomes for consumers
- Willingness to learn, curiosity and the ability to adjust in an evolving regulatory setting
What the job involves
- We are seeking an experienced and collaborative leader to manage the Consumer Contracts Team (CCT), a specialist team focused on protecting consumers by ensuring firms use fair, transparent and accessible contract terms and treat customers fairly throughout their contractual relationships
- As Manager of the CCT, you will lead a team of specialists responsible for addressing unfair or unclear contract terms through a combination of legal expertise, regulatory insight and stakeholder engagement
- You will provide direction across the team’s casework, projects and policy activities, working with internal and external stakeholders to deliver our statutory objectives and support key FCA priorities, including Consumer Duty and the review of Claims Management practices
- Manage, support and develop a team of contract law specialists, creating an inclusive environment where people can thrive, collaborate and deliver shared success
- Shape a positive team culture that promotes wellbeing, continuous learning and high-quality outcomes for consumers
- Oversee complex referrals and casework, helping secure fair treatment and redress for consumers where appropriate
- Carry out proactive projects that identify and reduce risks arising from unfair or unclear contract terms, improving outcomes across financial services
- Lead policy development and maintain regulatory guidance under the Consumer Rights Act 2015 and Unfair Terms in Consumer Contracts Regulations 1999, helping to shape standards across the sector
- Build good relationships with internal and external stakeholders to support consumer protection, help guide FCA priorities and help improve outcomes for millions of consumers across the UK

Developed on the back of the Financial Services Act of 2012, the Financial Conduct Authority is a regulatory body that acts as a regulator for financial firms, ensuring the integrity of the financial markets in the UK. Broadly focused on financial companies that provide consumer services, it’s governed by the Bank of England and therefore acts independently of the government.
The FCA is responsible for regulatory innovations, such as stronger customer authentication requirements, including biometric and code requirements for payments, that have clamped down on fraud and improved security for national consumers. The FCA also introduced the Anti-Money Laundering Supervision in 2017.
The organisation’s independence from government ensures its impartiality as a regulator. In the late 2010s, it set up the cryptoasset registration, a department responsible for ensuring the legality of crypto payments. This has become an important aspect of national counter terrorism measures, and exemplifies the complex and vital work that the organisation carries out.
