Who you are
- Experience: 3+ years in industry
- Technical Expertise: Masters or PhD in Statistics or a related field, or 3+ years experience specifically in online experimentation
- Communication: Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Ability to clearly articulate technical ideas and trade-offs to both technical and non-technical audiences
- Bias for Action: A pragmatic and iterative approach to engineering that emphasizes incremental progress and continuous delivery
What the job involves
- We are looking for a talented individual to join the Core Data Science team at LaunchDarkly – a small but mighty team responsible for core methodology within our product line
- Ensuring the statistical rigor and validity of our products
- Developing new techniques to bring value to our users
- Advocating for technically-sophisticated personas in our product development process
- Raising the bar for data-driven decision making within our products
- Collaborate cross-functionally with engineering, design, and product teams
- Conduct research to inform feature design, ensuring statistical and performance requirements are met
- Provide reference implementations and technical guidance; contribute to production code as needed
- Support product planning by sizing, scoping, and offering technical input on design discussions
- Drive data accessibility by defining team metrics, optimizing queries, and improving processes and tooling to enable data-driven decisions
Our take
Feature flags are a powerful software development tool, allowing teams to modify system behavior without changing code, therefore minimizing risk. If a business has a new feature they want to test, they can then roll it out to a small set of users before letting it go live. These companies can, for example, get quick feedback on the new feature and fix any bugs, or roll back any changes.
LaunchDarkly allows companies to run tests like this by activating the new code for only a small set of users prior to launch. Typically running these tests requires lots of developer time - a daunting and expensive prospect for most rapidly growing businesses - and can risk disruption to the user experience if testing takes place on the live product.
Demonstrating its value to businesses, the platform is used by the likes of IBM, Intuit and Atlassian. Recently it has seemed to focus on further scaling its growth as it develops towards being a leading business in the feature management space.
