What the job involves
- The Talent Executive will report to the Head of Talent and primarily assist with all aspects of candidate attraction, recruitment and assessment for Flex Trainee, our SQE scheme and Co Sec Trainee, our 2 year programme for aspiring Company Secretaries and Governance Officers
- In time, the Talent Executive may also assist with Talent responsibilities in relation to Flex HQ and Learning & Development
- Assist with all stages of candidate hiring for Flex Trainee schemes; including, reviewing and assessing applications, decisions on progression, rejecting unsuccessful candidates, interviews, Assessment Centres, offers. This role spans both our legal trainee SQE programme and our new Company Secretary governance trainee programme
- Review and respond to applications promptly, creating positive first impression of Flex
- Research social mobility initiatives to inform future partnerships
- Ensure recruitment management platforms, such as recruitee, have accurate record-keeping
- Assist with Identifying and recruiting candidates for atypical trainee roles or On Demand roles requiring specific skills/experience
- Develop and maintain interview materials
- Interview candidates via Zoom and in person
- Assist with the planning, execution and review of trainee Assessment Centres
- Contribute to reviewing and changing candidate screening tools
- Assist in the implementation of hiring strategy for candidates for On Demand and Flex Trainee; set, track and report on appropriate targets
- Identify opportunities to improve the quality of the candidate pool and adapt sourcing approach accordingly
- In conjunction with Marketing team, participate in law fairs and other recruitment events
- Develop and maintain candidate recruitment materials and presentations
- Work to ensure we are maximising the opportunities with the portal
- Successfully onboard appropriate candidates; ensure candidate profiles are fully completed on Portal to enable effective searching and matching
- Respond quickly and effectively to communications from candidates through SalesForce
- Resolve issues with the application/screening/onboarding process and solve problems proactively to maintain good relationships with candidates
- Work closely with Head of Talent on matching Flex Trainees to Flex Trainee clients
- Assist on client calls or visits to ensure accurate trainee job descriptions are created
- Support Head of Talent with client proposals for Flex Trainees
- Assist on all aspects of the Flex Trainee ‘Readiness Programmes’; oversee efforts to secure participation from facilitators, presenters and buddies
- Research and execute on-going Learning & Development training plan for all Flex TraineesLead on all aspects of any other pre-placement training for Flexers
- Assist in measuring success of readiness programme and ongoing training programmes and be able to demonstrate ROI
- Contribute to L&D strategy

Our take
Law firms often experience periods of increased demand, especially around project work, but don't have the time or expertise to easily source skilled legal professionals. Flex Legal was founded in 2017 with the goal of easing these staffing problems, giving law firms access to a flexible pool of qualified and vetted lawyers and paralegals.
Flex's main competition are the traditional recruitment agencies who have supplied temporary workers in this sector, but lacking the links to the legal profession they are unable to source the best talent or accurately assess their suitability for roles. Compared to other legal agencies Flex is a step ahead in its matching systems and interface, for instance offering video profiles and automated timesheets and invoicing systems which are not typical in the sector.
As the legal profession continues to modernise, having access to the top new talent will be increasingly important. Flex's contribution is to implement tools like the training journal app, which is the UK's first digital Qualifying Work Experience record. This will bolster Flex's pool of qualified legal talent while supporting students and employees through the qualification process, a win-win for the company and the industry. In 2024, an acquisition by vision-aligned London-based international law firm Mishcon de Raya will see Flex maintain autonomy and benefit from new capital.
