- A portfolio that shows exceptional motion craft and strong graphic design thinking — especially within ads, campaigns, or digital-first environments
- Deep expertise in After Effects, with strong Figma skills and a solid grasp of typography, layout, hierarchy, and visual systems
- A strong sense of timing, pacing, and storytelling — you know how to design for attention in the first few seconds
- Experience creating performance-driven creative and working within growth or test-and-learn environments
- The ability to use data and insights to inform iteration — without sacrificing originality or craft
- A high bar for detail — from kerning and easing curves to visual consistency across formats
- The ability to think beyond individual assets and contribute to campaign-level thinking and scalable creative systems
What the job involves
- We’re hiring a Motion Designer to lead how motion shows up across Cleo’s paid channels
- You’ll be responsible for concepting and crafting scroll-stopping animated creative that drives performance — from fast-turn paid social ads to more ambitious campaign moments. You’ll combine strong storytelling, refined visual craft, and a deep understanding of digital platforms to create work that performs and feels distinctly Cleo
- Working closely with Growth and Brand, you’ll take ideas from script or insight through to polished animation. You’ll help define a scalable motion approach for performance marketing — building systems, templates, and ways of working that allow us to test fast without compromising craft
- Concept, design, and animate high-performing paid social creative from initial idea through to delivery
- Translate scripts, insights, and product features into compelling, motion-led narratives grounded in strong visual design
- Apply strong typography, layout, and composition principles before a single keyframe is set
- Create cohesive visual systems across campaigns — ensuring assets feel intentional and designed, not templated
- Partner closely with Growth to iterate quickly based on performance data and testing insights
- Develop repeatable motion frameworks and templates that support rapid experimentation while maintaining craft
- Collaborate with Brand to ensure performance work aligns with Cleo’s wider identity and creative ambition
- Explore AI and emerging tools to speed up production and unlock new creative possibilities

People are increasingly not satisfied with the products being offered by traditional banks, which have proven slow to react to the needs of younger consumers who expect more from their everyday experiences.
Cleo was one of the first companies to make great use of chatbots that sit within Facebook's messenger app. This chatbot-first approach and Gen Z user base have given it strong virality. It now has millions of registered users, 99% of which are based in the US, leading to a decision to take a year break from the UK market to focus on its US Gen Z customers. And after a successful year in the US its now eyeing up a return to the UK.
Its Series C funding will help the company to double down in the US, where it will make a significant increase in employee headcount, and enable Cleo to maintain and expand its service during an economic downturn.
Financial advice delivered via bots is a crowded space, so Cleo benefits from having a strong brand presence. It has gone for very bold, fun, Gen Z-focused messaging which helps it to stand out from competitors such as Emma, Plum, and Chip.
